Just wanted to say: you got some grief over the Gabe Jennings "visionquest" story...I can't say I loved it either, but I'm glad you tried out something new when you had the chance. It might have been a very good thing, different time, place, and/or person. [I know in the eighties, most folks would have eaten up something in-depth about Coe, Ovett, etc.]
Keep up the good work and don't be afraid to give something a shot every now and then.

I spoke with you in the mid-nineties, when the Internet was becoming a new challenge to the print media, and I pointed out that you have the advantage in two ways: 1.) Pictures, and you should have more color ones; and 2.) Story text, some of the best reading I ever enjoyed were those one page write-ups on specific races...Walker world record, Virgin vs. Rose cross-country battle, each event in the Olympic issues, etc. Reading that coverage, it was like I was there myself--still something the Internet doesn't solely own!

Oh great, encourage them! What do we get next? Gabe cruises the Mediterranean in search of the answer to the crucial question, "What's best: Zarzuela, Bouillabaisse or Cioppino?"?

I don't really see what the big deal was about using 1/4 of a page to print Gabe updates for three months... you don't have to read it if it bothers you that much.

I thought the Gabe updates were interesting.

I agree. The Jennings pieces were a waste of space. Why is Jennings more deserving of this space, than Geb, Tergat, Mutola, Graf, Radcliffe, Ayhhan, Szabo, etc.? People who've ACTUALLY done something in track & field? The space could've (& should've) been used to highlight upcoming European or African stars, especially since T&FN's coverage of non-Americans definitely needs to increase.

Blacklily, as usual, hit the nail on the head.
Say, why does blacklily spell her/his name with only three Ls, rather than "lilly"? Is it pronounced with a strong i? My theory is it's Dan Lilot's psuedonym, used to express opinions he's afraid to say to gh.

              Re: to gh/T&FN

My theory is that it's a pseudo for the already pseudonymic "Too Shay", who is all over the IAAF's board.

No doubt that it's Too Shay. I'd just like to know how she has enough time to apparently read every online newspaper in the world everyday. Is extremely knowledgable in my opinion.

                  Hey, Mr. F**k--er...PUCK!

Read it again, loser. I'm encouraging them to not be afraid to try something new, hopefully better next time.
