  • Isin 4.90 WR

EPelle put this at the end of the other thread - c'mon, this is good stuff!

[has she done this in 4 straight meets now?]

and Martinez just went 27-5.5 in the LJ.

and Rybakov and Holm no misses thru 7-8!

Somehow she dashed all the people that was going to watch her to the arena (like me) by not trying another world record. Even knowing that he'd won Holm tried another height...

It's called PV economics. I predict 4.91 at her next indoor meet and 4.93 at her first outdoor meet.

Life is pretty simple when you own the event.

I'm going to focus on Stacy getting over 4.88 (16') outdoors this year.

Edit: Since we know Isin will break the WR by 1cm at a time owing to the economics involved, she's no dummy, what do you think the women's WR will be at the end of this outdoor season? I predict 4.99 (16-4 1/2).

          2006: 5.06 (16-7 1/4).

          2007: 5.10 (16-8 3/4).

She had already won with her 4.80m clearance. The 4.90m came after that.

You are right Jon but 4.80 was not WR (neither Holm's 2.40).

Jack, I know what do you mean but I don't like that PV economics. Even watching that 4.90 jump she cleared with many extra cm.

She admits she has cleared 5.00 in practice. She will maximize her earnings potential by moving the WR up 1cm at a time since she earns $20,000 to $30,000 everytime she breaks the WR. Why leave a couple hundred thousand dollars on the table?

To make it really exciting we need another competitor to push her. Her dominance is like watching a 22 to 1 baseball game.

These Russians learn capitalism quite fast.

I like 22-1 games (as long as my team's winning). I may be out of whack, but I'd rather see a big mark than a tightly contested match-up. But I agree that Stacy or Feo need to get closer so she has to sweat every now and then.

Since these young Russians began to work for a living, they've known nothing but capitalism.

To clarify, major outdoor meets pay US$50,000 to Euro 50,000 for a WR. Heard from a few people in Madrid (not sure how reliable, probably just conjecture) that some summer meets won't invite her because they may not be able to (or don't want to) afford the insurance necessary to pay a WR bonus.

5 meters will happen this summer. The only mystery remaining is when and where.
