Re: Äntligen!!!!!!!!!! 2.40 for Holm!
Ok, I can be a little happy:
1-2-3-4 in the 60m hurdles within 30 minutes of each other (J Kallur, S Kallur, R Kronberg, P Nossmy) and then the killer high jump win by Holm. Nothing like increasing his PB by 3cm on the biggest day of the indoor season - when many had counted him out. Bába just shook his head in disbelief, like "what can we do to beat this guy?" type of look.

Re: Äntligen!!!!!!!!!! 2.40 for Holm!
I just wonder how high Stefan could have jumped if he hadn't been injured a few weeks back! Carlo's record is still safe, but not for long. This is shaping up to be a titanic matchup for this year's outdoor championships. (Holm, Freitag, Baba, Rybakov)If you're ever walking down the beach and you see a girl dressed in a bikini made out of seashells, and you pick her up and hold her to your ear, you can hear her scream.

Re: Äntligen!!!!!!!!!! 2.40 for Holm!
holm made an interesting move: he & ryb were perfect thru 2.34. when ryb cleared 2.36, holm passed to 2.38, above his pb. had he cleared 2.36 & both had failed at 2.38, tie for gold. with pass, if both fail at 2.38, holm is 2nd. BIG RISK!!! but paid off in energy for 2.40. what do you think?

Re: Äntligen!!!!!!!!!! 2.40 for Holm!
Thor - thank you, thank you, thank you.
Watching 5'11 Holm so cleanly over 7'10 1/2 not only belies the WMCJ fallacy, but will now be mandatory viewing for ALL my jumpers. If he and Jonathan Edwards can do it, there's hope for lots of others who feel they are are too altitudinally or melaninally challenged to be jumpers. And I'm just looking for 6'2/5'2 - 13'/10' - 21'/17' - 42'/34' boys and girls!

Re: Äntligen!!!!!!!!!! 2.40 for Holm!
Lots of great English language phraseology today. First the news article @ the EuroChamps describing the Spanish long jumper, Martinez, as a "former Cuban" and tafnut's new idiom, "melaninally challenged".
Holm is the man, that's for sure... but let's not forget that the other two of the three greatest overhead jumpers were considerably shorter than even Holm and that makes their overhead clearances a greater % of their body hts. I think Holm is as good ohysically and technically as either Jacobs or Noji, though, so that deficit may indicate that he still has room for improvement.

Re: Äntligen!!!!!!!!!! 2.40 for Holm!
As a reply to his passing. Holm made it no secret he was going for gold, and he must have believed that he had just as good a chance at 2.38 as 2.36. So much for the injury. More interesting, what does Patrik Sjoberg have to say?
Also, did anyone tape the meet? Id love to get a copy.

Re: Äntligen!!!!!!!!!! 2.40 for Holm!
Thanks to Thor for the video link. Watch it frame by frame and note how far Holm's take-off point is from the bar/pit... that huge distance is, of course, the indicator of how incredibly fast he is on the approach run.
