By fluke I came across 10 mins of coverage of the EIC on FSC last night. They open with Holm's 2.40m. I am astonished how far out he takes off. The bed is about 1' out from either the LJ/TJ/PV runway. He takes off slightly outside the runway. That's 1.22m wide, add on about 30cms and you get 1.52m - that's 4.98 feet! From those who have seen him jump more than I - is this true or am I experiencing some kind of optical illusion on TV?

It's not the TV creating any illusion he does take off from way outside the bar. I think the higher he goes (as the heights advance in competition) the further away from the bar he takes off!

True story. I was on the Venice boardwalk three weeks ago - the courts are where the movie was filmed. Lani had stopped at the 200th ear ring vendor of the day and so I kind of wandered aimlessly about for a few minutes.
