dick beardsley who once was a 208 marathoner and got second to alberto salazar in a great boston marathon race, ran 2 hours 43 minutes to win the 45-49 age division, the overall winner ran 223, i believe i heard beardsley was seriously hurt to end his running career, good to see hes able to run again.

beardsley probably is about the nicest guy the world has ever seen. i met him a few years ago at a book signing. the line was very long and kept growing longer, because rather than just signing books and moving the herd along, dick would sit there and talk with each person for a few minutes.
if you haven't read his book, i'd recommend it. he's gone through many successes (near american record at grandma's marathon, close second at boston to salazar - wasn't he cut off by a motorcycle or something near the end of that one?) and failures, including injuries and an addiction to pain killers.Comment
