  • Who will reign supreme in the MEN'S 400m this year?

LaShawn Merrit and Jeremy Warnier have to be the man everyone has their sights but who will be the best of those two in the 400m? Do you think someone else will top both of them in 2005?

In my opinion the 400m isn't going to be dominated by one individual as there are current several individuals who have the potential to win at any given meet. The two athletes of Jeremy Warnier and LaShawn Merrit do currently seem to be the heir apparent to Michael Johnson's 400m throne but other young Americans are threats as well. I don't see any foreigner be a serious threat to consistently defeating the Americans. It will be interesting to see who ends up No.1 LaShawn Merritt, Jeremy Warnier, Xaiver Carter, or ?.

Let's see - a 44.00 Oly Champion or an untested 44.93i rookie? I'll stick with WARINER (!) for now, thanks.

Sorry folks, I'm goin' with Door #4 - Darold Williamson. He just got inched out for the Olympic team, and it would have been VERY interesting to see what might have happened in Athens were he there.

The Forgotten Man in light of Wariner and the young bucks, when the dust settles between now and 2008 my instincts tell me he will be The Man.

              But what do I know?

Have you all forgotten about Otis Harris?

This guy ran 44.16 with NO COACH.

He deserves to be in the equation somewhere.

Only one man has repeated as the winner of the 400m in the OG and/or the WCh outdoors. Michael Johnson won 2 OG and 4 WCh outdoors. The probability is Wariner will never win another OG or a 1st WCh outdoors.

400 at the Nationals should be a treat.

Usain Bolt will be a threat if he takes it up seriously.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any event this season that excites me more than the men's 400. USATF should be a barnburner.

                          THERE ARE 8 YOUNG 400 RUNNERS CAPABLE.SOME WILL BE 200 UNDER 20//OTHERS LIKE ROCK/WARINER/AND OTHERS HAVE GREAT 600 STRENGTH.WILL RUN THE 800.

WITH THE RIGHT COACHING,I THINK AS OTHERS THERE ARE AT LEAST 3 OF THESE 400 STARS CAPABLE OF RUNNING 144/143 THIS YEAR,AND NEXT.

THE MONEY IN TRACK IS EITHER U RUN 43.8&19.7 OR
                          1;43-THE 200 OR THE 800+THE GREAT 400.

EVERYTHING WAS ONLY A SUGGESTION&OUTSIDE VIEW.

I would be blown over if any of the young 400m runners like Otis, Jeremy, LaShawn, Williamson, and Coleman try the 800m. The 400m is more prestigous and the lure to run/train to be an 400m/800m runner isn't enticing enough to have them foresake just being a world class 400m man. I do agree that if some would follow Jearl Miles footsteps (earlier in their career) that some of those young guns could EVENTUALLY run 1:42.50 or faster-but don't see them seriously attempting the move up.

Wariner seems to be the only one of the bunch with the body for the 800 and even he is a 200/400 guy, just like the rest of the bunch. Merritt and Carter could run sub 20 sec for 200, and there's no reason to move up to the 800, a la Jearl Miles, when you have that kind of speed.

Seriously, has Jearl Miles ever run faster than 23 sec for 200m?
