    Re: vertical jumps

I believe Brumel had one of 44", so 60" is out of the question.

        Re: vertical jumps

I hate to burst the bubble but that is really not very impressive.. Wilt Chamberlain had a measured vertical at the annual Sporting News Clinic in 1962 at 68.25 inches and he did so wearing a leisure suit and suede leather loafers.

Highest I ever heard was that David Thompson (NC/pro Basketball '70's/'80's)could go 48". I doubt even that is true.

            Re: vertical jumps

I've heard of standing vertical jumps in the low 40's, and running/step in jumps into the high 50's. The alleged "world record" is 60". NBA players, who probably have the best "hops" in the world, have true vertical jumps from 2-3 feet. There are stories of a couple of NBAers able to take things (like a 100 dollar bill) off the top of the backboard.

I've heard of sprinters being able to "hop" up onto a 60" plyo box or over 60" bar, but those are only stories.

Does anyone know how far Al Fuerbach could standing long jump? Now that's supposed to be amazing..

In all serioiusness, I remember my mother telling me when I was young that a century ago the famed Russian ballet performer Nijinsky could do 48".

Another Wilt Legend. Will it ever stop.

The best I ever heard of, was "the Goat" was supposed to have a 50" vertical. 68 inches! How gullible can you be?!

                    Re: vertical jumps

Didn't we just have this whole discussion, which ened up with the Harlem Globetrotter dunking on a 12' rim with his hips clearly at 8'? That had to be near 60".

                      Re: vertical jumps

Wilt exaggerate when it comes to inches? No way, he didn't need to.

BTW, didn't Wilt also go to Med School? He was also the on site doctor during the filming of Conan, and once practiced law with Johnnie Cochran. He turned down the democratic nomination to be governor of California, and gave up his option to buy the Lakers to Jerry Bus at no charge. Helluva guy Wilt.

                      Did Wilt ever test positive?

Funny how there are never any reporters with cameras around when these things happen!

Also since Wilt was 7'2" If his hips were at 8' I'm assuming that his sneakers were not at 5'(60") I think he had longer legs than that!

Ok. I stand corrected. Still, Wilt did not have 3' legs!
