Are non-New Yorkers on this board scared of a NYC 2012 bid?

My feeling on this board, from the many posts I put up on the westside stadium and other subjects, is that many people on this board DO NOT want an Olympics in the City of New York, and would rather go to Paris rather than support their own nation's bid.

Has experience of USATF '91 scared you guys that much that you don't won't to come back to NY????????

Are you guys that scared of the NYC heat??????? It's a Summer Olympics, right???? Was the West Coast that crushed after San Francisco lost the bid to be a finalist???????

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was CITIES that make bids and host Olympic Games, not countries.

Our chances for 2012 are looking better everyday!
I'm sure the track fans will appreciate a walk from from their hotel to the stadium (while passing dozens of great restaurants).

My antipathy is based on one thing: I can't think of a much worse city--both for my personal pleasure, and for outdoor athletes trying to compete under optimal conditions--than New York in the summer.

If you live there and are used to it, fine, but for this outsider, it's just too hot, humid, dirty and grimy. This outsider loves NYC as a city. It's fabulous with a nice coating of snow in the winter.

Athens was hot and dusty! I was baking watching the rounds of the men's 100.
The 2003 WC in Paris missed 100+ degree temperatures by a week.

i dont care what city or country its in. my only concern is and will always be, as a distance running fanatic, is what city in the running,pun intended, will produce the best conditions for those skinny runners to shock and amaze.

I grew up 100 miles from NYC and have been going in and out of it for 40 years. I agree with GH above, and would give it a "grade" of about D+ as the site of a great track meet. Why not Paris? Are we supposed to be national chauvinists at the expense of the well-being of the athletes and fans? In a word: no.

Athens was hot, for sure. But I didn't cite dusty. I cited dirty and grimy for NYC and there's a difference. As John Sebastian said lo these many years ago, "hot time, summer in the city, back o' my neck feelin' dirty and gritty."

And the "dirty" is more a reference to the city itself than the weather. (Of course, these days, downtown SFO wins the dirty sweepstakes hands down)
