I have been routed on some strange itineraries from LAX back to Göteborg, but it is not hard whatsoever to get a flight from LAX into either Amsterdam or London. Cheap flights from London to Helsinki. Try even Seat24.se (or .com - I don:t know if you have that in the USA).

Suspect you'll find that flying out of Helsinki on 8/15 is close to impossible at this point. For an airport that small (in a relative sense to international hubs like LHR or CDG), you need to have your ducks in a row many months out. Coach seats on the first Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt that morning (primary routing if you're going to catch a United/Lufthansa flite back to U.S.) were sold out back around the new year.

Unfortunately, airlines don't let you book tickets more than 330 days in advance. That's a very magic number to keep in mind when wanting to travel to an OG or WC.
