He jumped 17.72m near the start of last season (also in Sao Paulo) but didn't come within 35cm of it for the whole of the rest of the season. I'm not going to hold my breath until we see another 17.60-17.70 jump outside of Brazil.

You know that this can do nothing more than light a fire under Olsson... he won:t carry a favorite:s role if Gregorio can replicate this at least once more outside of Brasil. Makes for an easier comeback and fight to get back to the top.

Not taking anything away from Gregorio, but I hope he doesn:t have the same "problem" that some of the USA jumpers have, namely, only setting PBs in their home meets.

Don't be too hard on Gregorio. Remember, Brazil is in the southern hemispere, which means it's winter in Brazil when the summer season is in full swing in Europe. Right now, he's peaking right at the end of the summer/early fall in the southern hemisphere. If he levels off from here, it's to be expected. How many jumpers in the north would be able to maintain 58' consistently through December?

I:ll give Gregorio credit for this: He jumped 17,71m. Plain and simple, he jumped far. Excellent.

For those who still measure things the way the gods intended, 17.71 is 58-1 1/4.

Plural and given to Brit ways (only). That is simply too much!

Gregorio is a huge man. If I remember what I saw in T&FN (don't have it here at work), he's something like 6-8, 225. Has there ever been a man nearly that large who has jumped that far (long or triple, for that matter)?

Is he capable of breaking the world mark?

The gods measure in cubits. I shouldn't have to tell you this.

But, wow, good early season mark (or late season, if the antipodes actually really go with the seasons. It seems like mostly, they just get an early start and then head to Europe.

He's got the best pre-jump beat in triple jumping today.

                            I don't think he's 6-8, probably closer to 6-5.

And why can't he break the WR? He may not have the runway speed of a Jon Edwards, but he's pretty powerful in his phases.

And here's your pedantic editor with the word lesson for today: "antipodes" is not a synonym for south of the equator. It means diametrically opposed on the globe. So the Brits (who popularized the word), Oz and N Zed became "the antipodes." The antipodes of Brazil, roughly speaking, is the Phillipines.
