"Previous junior," of course, is the same as current open.

Thank you all for your replies. I guess I could look this up, but you people explain it better than any rule book so here goes. What is (are) the various size implements in use i.e. high school, junior, junior int., etc.? And what age groups use what? Thanks again.

No. Kilmartin used junior implements so his score is quite a bit inferior to that of Brigham with international. Undoubtedly those who know nothing of the Decathlon will announce Kilmartin as the National Record Holder because of the Junior record he now holds. But unlike the Javelin, where each time they change the implement, there really IS a new national record, Kilmartin will hold the Junior Olympic National Record, the Junior record, the indoor Pentathlon record, but his scores in the Junior National meets would rank him no better than second to Brigham. In fact, he is not even the best Junior Decathlete in the US this year. That would be Trey Hardee of Mississippi State who did 7544 with International implements, but was unable to double back from NCAA's to the Junior National meet.

He undoubtedly used the new JUNIOR international implements, which didn't exist before last year. So it's hard to compare his performance to anything that preceded it by more than a year.

Does his win at the Pan Am Juniors (7486) qualify as the national hs record with the int. implements? Thanks in advance for any help.
