True, I did not think about the peg factor ... but we have seen 5.92 and 5.93 this eyar ...

Ok, maybe tiny chance is one in a million!

That is still around 9" below the WR! That is a huge margin at that level.

There is a chance Gail Devers could run faster than 12.21 in the 100mH. That record has stood for a long time set by Yordanka Donkova. Another record that won't be broke for a long time is the 400m record of 47.60. I can't remember who set it but it is an amazing time.

          read this thread
'coaching both sexes to the WR in the same event'
for a refresher course in Marita Koch.

Marita had a koch, so she's the WR holder for both sexes? I don't get it.

Chances of WRs at the Worlds are slim to none. More realistically, let's guess how SLOW some of those "exciting" tactical races will be... Let's see, maybe 3:38 for the 1500...13:22 for the 5000... Boy, I just can't wait!!!!

Re: any WR's at world championships

the chances i see for world records in paris are womens triple jump and pole vault 2 relatively new events, and womens 5k if radcliffe is healthy she will need to push the pace to get away from several africans already at 14.29 to 14.40 this year. the womens 5k record of 14.28 is soft when you consider the womens 10k record holder ran her 2nd 5k in a 10k race in 14.26

That should be an exciting competition. I'd rather watch this one than any of the others in the champs. Hopefully, we won't have any of the big names NH this time.

doubtful there will be any world records save the women's pole vault

Better shape than last year? Last time I checked, she was injured and not even sure whether she'll be in Paris. If she does compete, it will be her first track race this year (I believe her last race was the London marathon).

                        Let's all face it:
There is NO chance for any world records on the men's side, and only a slight possibility of a women's WR in the vault.

Oh, except for Usain "Lightening" (sic.) Bolt, who will surely obliterate both the 200 and 400 records while easing up at the line.

Don't look for Radcliffe to be a factor at the WC. She currently has bronchitis.
