    A few highlights from the Big Sky State Games July 18th thru 20th.

    Friday, July 18th. 5K Road Race. 6:15 p.m.
    100 degrees F, calm.

    1st - Dennis Newell, Black Hills State, 15:43
    2nd - Scott McGowan, University of Montana, 15:55

    Montana Mile, track, 8:55 p.m.
    90 degrees F, calm

    Men (Record - Chuck Sloan, OKlah. State, 4:12.2)

    1st - Lyle Weese, Montana State, 4:12.8
    2nd - Kevin Clary, Montana State, 4:16.3
    3rd - Matt Nelson, Idaho State, 4:19.0

    Women (Record - Nicole Hunt, Moving Comfort, 4:59.8)

    1st - Nicole Hunt, Moving Comfort, 5:01.9
    2nd - Jennifer Thomas, unatt, 5:07.9
    3rd - Kathy Aragon (41), unatt, 5:17.6

      Yes, there is plenty of home state pride (obviously nothing to compare to Ed however). But, I also wanted to highlight the mid-summer/off-season performances of an NAIA All-American in Cross and Track in 2002-03 (Newell), an NCAA All American at 1500 (McGowan), a 4-time all american at NCAA in xc, indoor and outdoor (Weese), a 2-time Trials Qualifier (Hunt), and a 3-time qualifier (including the 2004 marathon trials)(Aragon), and a current Pan-Am Games competitor (and maybe Worlds is he can coax a few more feet out of a throw) in the hammer (Parker).

      Not a bad line-up for any all-comers type meet in the middle of July.
