  • Who makes the 5K team

Just curious as to who everyone thinks will make the 5K team. If all goes as well as the Denver Post article and RW.com suggest, then Goucher should have a shot at the "A"

I also see Jorge making the "A".

    What's everyone think.

As a related topic, are we going to have more than one man in the 1500. At this point, I have serious doubts.

Why remind us on the depressing state of US distance running.

I think Goucher and Torres will both make the 'A'.

I don't think any will make the 'A' in the 1500m

There is simply no time for him to make the standard.
If you don't have the standard by now you are pushing it.

I think both will make the standard. Wetmore knows what he is doing. Goucher and Torres... 13:19 and 13:20...

Goucher sounds confident he will make it, and given that he has run 13:11 and knows what workouts point to sub 13:20 I would say he is likely to make the cut. Torres is a tougher call. He has to PR by 4-5 seconds, and he hasn't really had much time off since last summer - if he makes it I'll be impressed. Look for Torres and Lincoln to shine more brightly next year once removed from college competitive rigors.

Torres has hardly raced at all this year, though, esp. at 5000. I think he has plenty in the tank.

Re: Who makes the 5K team

Torres won NCAA XC in the fall, didn't compete indoors and has run I believe only 2 5Ks (13:24 and the US Championships) and a handful of 1500s this year so far. He should be pretty well-rested to take a good crack at getting an A qualifer.

Other than the 3 5k's they are scheduled to run over the next few weeks.

yeah, there's plenty of time. Worlds isn't for 4 weeks.
