Thanos' point wasn't that Washington's performace was an abberation, but rather Americans medaling in World or Oly championships.

Indeed, other than Anthony's gold, the last medalist of any kind was John Powell's silver back in '87.

I'd call one out of eleven an abberation.

Why was Washington's gold an "aberration"? In preceding years he had world ranked No. 2, No. 3 and twice No. 4. He was clearly among the world's elite.

silver/bronze medalists Schult and Riedel threw over 68m, something that had happend only three times previously in meet history (twice by Riedel, once by Schult), so it wasn't as if Washington beat a sub-par field. Give the guy some credit.

If they are wind tunnels and Alekna threw 67.73 under no pressure in a very strong tailwind in the Europa cup..... Doesn't look very optomistic.

Don't think they're out of shape as much as they're throwing in enclosed stadiums, not in wind tunnels like most of the places you mentioned: ucsd, salinas, modesto, mt sac.

doubt it. tony washington's gold in 99 was an aberation. unfortunately most us disc throwers leave their best form in the spring and early summer (ucsd, salinas, modesto, mt sac, usatf) and are our of shape in august. too bad.

    U.S.A. Discus throwing

With Carl brown throwing 210' in Europe yesterday what do you think of the U.S.A.'s chances at the I.A.A.F. Champs?

A medal ... in the finals ... will we have 3 throwers in the meet?

How about the men and the women?
Working...
