  • Pint-size Discus WR?

Wonder what the all-time best is for an athlete 5'10'' (1.77) or 175 lbs (79kg).

Bryan Clay just threw 183-4 (55.87)!

This from a guy who runs about a 10.3 100.

I am truly impressed by this performance. All that earlier talk of a future Deca WR for this guy doesn't seem so farfetched.

    (edited for metric accuracy)

55.87 m you transposed the numbers, although your imperial conversion is in the right area.

I don't understand his (relatively) slow times in the 400, but if he can that taken care of, he's going to score 9000, soon.

Does anyone have a link to decathlon by-event records? I remember seeing a site that listed these somewhere. Judging from the all-time lists, it looks as though Clay could have set the deca discus WR.

                  Re: Pint-size Discus WR?

From Eldricks list at the IAAF here are the PR decathalon scores with discus throws over 50 m. The 55.87 m that Clay threw today is 2.65 m further than the next longest by Huffins. This is obvously an incomplete list. Is there a list of just the best discus throws in a decathlon?

                  8820 Bryan Clay .................( 10.44/2.2 - 7.96/0.2 - 15.23 - 2.06 - 49.19 / 14.13/1.5 - 50.11 - 4.90 - 69.71 - 4:41.65 )

                  8547 Igor Sobolevskiy........( 10.64/0.7 - 7.71/0.2 - 15.93 - 2.01 - 48.24 / 14.82/0.3 - 50.54 - 4.40 - 67.40 - 4:32.84 )

                  8506 Valter Külvet ...............( 11.05/-1.4 - 7.35/0.4 - 15.78 - 2.00 - 48.08 / 14.55/-0.8 - 52.04 - 4.60 - 61.72 - 4:15.93 )

Edit Actually comparing Huffins and Clay they seem to both have good speed and throwing skills.

                    Re: Pint-size Discus WR?

I believe this may qualify as a Decathlon WR (must score over 7000 pts to qualify)....I am truly impressed. I believe the existing record is about 180' 5" from a Swiss guy? I have Zarnowski's book at home, but am not there at the present. I bet Frank will be excited at this news if he wasn't already present there.

coud this be a DT stadium ?

i don't believe so, as the individual DT was won in a derisory 64

                      ( what the f*ck happened to the legacy oerter,wilkins,powell,washington ??? )

more pertinent/shameful is the lack of US DT guyz

does the US lack athletic 250 pounders ???

using your formulas: given a 183 discus and 10.3 100 meters, what would his optimum pick in the NFL draft be?
