Re: Johnson out of the gold medal spot in Paris
He won't medal but I do see him making the finals.
Despite running 9.93 with the aid of a following wind of 1.8 m/s, he hasn't shown me that he's consistent enough to medal. Before this year Patrick was only a decent sprinter & didn't medal in any significant meets. However, his 9.93 was noteworthy. Only 38 other men in history can claim sub 10.00 in the 100 meters.

No, actually you don't got to. It's a one-off performance against nobody. And the fact that Suetsugu has an anomalous 10.03 behind him in that race makes me view the whole thing w/ a bit of a jaundiced eye at this point.
I think the real measure of Johnson's talent is found in his two performances in Golden League meets in July: 10.23 for 5th in Paris, 10.16 for 7th in Rome.

Re: Johnson out of the gold medal spot in Paris
I am not sure how many people are aware of this but, in the southern hemisphere our summer runs december through march.
Thus the major athletics champs for southern hemisphere athletes ie patrick johnson, are in March.
The problem this presents is running qualifying standards an awkward time away from champs. Patrick will have had go away after his good summer and do another build up for Paris, that is why he has not been racing as much.
Also he has a 9.8? something running with a 4ish tail.
I don't think he will medal in Paris either, but for the reasons mentioned unless SH athletes for go their domestic season they never run very flash during the NH season.

It can be a problem, but then again it's not totally different from northern hemisphere athletes peaking for both indoor and outdoor seasons. The majority of world-class Australian athletes do manage it, so it's not that good an excuse... And, if the domestic season ends in March, he shouldn't have been running that fast in May - if he was in great shape back then, but isn't now, he must have got it wrong. Maybe he is going to peak in Paris, but somehow I strongly doubt he will get close to 9.93.
