With everybody excited over Alyson Felix and the current crop of female sprinters, has anybody even considered that Marion Jones may be even faster than before when she returns from her 'maternity leave'. It has been suggested that female athletes have shown considerable improvement in performance following pregnancies primarily because of the increase in hormonal flow triggered by child-bearing, which enhances muscular development and strength.

She could quite possibly be faster. Many people attribute Valerie Brisco-Hooks' 200-400 gold medal double in the '84 Olympics to the hypothesis that motherhood increased her strength. -

Yes, but she was considerably faster than before she had her baby. I guess the real point is that motherhood made her faster.Comment
