  • 100 yd dash results from the Superstars

White football player/Olympic skiier Jeremy Bloom ran a 9.41 in the 100yds to beat NFL stars Will Allen (9.85) & Ahman Green (9.66) to win the 2003 Superstars at 20 years old!

9.41? In a word, no he didn't. (Oh, that's three words, but my statement stands)

Here were the top 3 times:
      1. Bloom 9.41
      2. Ahman Green (Packer rb) 9.66
      3. Will Allen (Giant db) 9.85

I don't believe there were wind gauges either.

According to his website, he ran a 10.72 in high school so he has some serious talent!

Yeah, timing is always suspect in any short race. And Joey Galloway's Superstar 100 yd record of 9.22 seems awfully fast. Still, if the Bloom kid ran a legit 10.7 100m race in high school and has been training seriously to be an NFL wideout, well, a mid 9 second 100 yds does not seem outside the realm of possibility.

On a positive note, Superstars has always given track athletes a vehicle for more media exposure. Take a look at the competitors and the records (http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Dugo ... cords.html) They have some really interesting results... Mike Powell holds the kayaking mark and Roger Kingdom is the all-time best bowler! Skeets N. was an ace on the bicycle and Willie Gault owns the obstacle course. To me the most interesting list was in the half-mile. Karch Kiraly, the best volleyball player ever, ran 2:06. Impressive, but some soccer guy called Brian Budd blitzed a 1:57!

Were these timed in true NFL fashion ? i.e. hand started with a photo-finish picture (thereby neatly lobbing off around 0.2 to 0.3 off the real time). The reference to Joey Galloway running 9.22 seems to support that theory. Galloway was certainly quick (in his early years for Seattle (?)) but not that quick. In other words he could have been a 9.3 Hand timed performer (= 9.55 or thereabouts on auto-timing)

I thought Mike Powell broke the obstacle course record a few years back

Didn't Galloway run for Ohio State? I'll go back and see what I can find. The we might get some sort of "conversion factor" for the superstars 100y.

I`m sure about Galloway running at Ohio State, but do you remember Robert Smith( great RB with the Vikings)he was a very good 400m man while at OSU....high 45 range I think.

He ran 46.41 in HS and 45.73 in college. Never won a HS state title in the 400 or 200!

Never won state. That's right. Chris Nelloms won everything in the same time frame.

Did the results indicate whether the 9.41 was FAT or handtimed? In an event such as this, the organizers might not know enough to show handtime results in tenths.

guys it is obvious the times are bogus as usual in these competitions. the clock does not start until the athletes are out of the blocks like the 40 y dash. if those guys were really fast they would be in track competing with mo and tim et al.

I believe that the standard conversion for 100 yards to 100m is from 0.9-1.1s. From 91.44m-100m. 8.56m from 100 yards to 100m travelling at faster than 9-10m/s at the finish.

So 9.41s suddenly becomes around 10.31-10.51s for a standardised 100m race.
