Re: Lagat 3'29.30 !
>Pretty decisive win; glad Webb placed high and ran fast...
Webb was still pretty close to Lagat at 1200 m (the only one who was), he probably could have run a bit faster time if he hadn't tried to hang with Lagat so long (as he faded at the end).

Re: Lagat 3'29.30 !
the pace was pretty much a 3'29 ( from 1.2k split )
if webb did try to hang with lagat, then i applaud him - he won't get a 3'30 hanging around 10m behind lagat at the bell
he followed a faster pace than he's ever done before ( but it wasn't a suicidal one of 3'27 - 3'28 )
so we know he can follow 3'29 pace upto 1.2k
work on his strength next year & he shoud last that last 300m a bit better

Good point. Webb always seems to run bravely and he seems to have self-confidence, just needs to get a bit better.
The TV coverage was a bit frustrating, I only saw the last 400 meters or so of the 1500. The rest of the race was spent looking at for example Anna Pyatykh triple jumping (ok, I'm not too devastated by that particular diversionwith an official obstructing the view of the sand pit so you couldn't really see how far she was jumping!

Re: Lagat 3'29.30 !
3'32.52 for webb is a pb i believe ( 3'32.73 from last year was previous one )
i'm sure he wouda loved to have got into 3'31 territory, but there is still time - berlin is probably his last race this season ?

Re: Lagat 3'29.30 ! Webb 2:46 (WHEN?)
A 3:46 mile almost looks certain for Alan Webb by the time he is 25. It is not "if" he runs 3:46 but "when".
For those who are upset Lagat was not born in America remember that he is beating an American record set by another African transplant Sidney Maree. Lagat and Webb are going to give US 1500 meter runners new respect next year.

Remember neither Frank Shorter nor Alberto Salazar were born in America either. Citizenship is citizenship.

Re: Lagat 3'29.30 ! Webb 2:46 (WHEN?)
Webb has very clearly proven that he's willing to run with a very fast pace--far more willing than any other American besides Lagat (at anything above the 400). I have to assume that the strength will continue to improve. Then, he'll be able to go through 1200 in 2:46 or '47 and finish considerably faster than he's been able to do this summer. I've said it before, but: I really respect his gutsiness and willingness to go for it in every race. There's no chickenpoop fiddle-faddling with him...

"Remember neither Frank Shorter nor Alberto Salazar were born in America either. Citizenship is citizenship."
Shorter was born of US citizens who happened to be living abroad at the time...nothing "quasi" about his citizenship.

Re: Lagat 3'29.30 !
The following appeared in Race Results Weekly this past April:
LAGAT GAINED U.S. CITIZENSHIP LAST YEAR
By Assistant Editor, BOB RAMSAK
Contrary to reports published last week, Olympic 1500 meter silver medallist
Bernard Lagat received U.S. citizenship prior to the 2004 Olympic Games,
according to a report published today in the Chicago Tribune, raising questions
about whether Lagat will be allowed to keep his 2004 Olympic medal.
"I can confirm that I have been a naturalised United States citizen since
May 7, 2004," Lagat said in a statement issued yesterday, after Tribune
reporter, Philip Hersh, told the runner that he received documentation that
conflicted with the date Lagat reported last week. In his statement, Lagat said
that he realizes that his statement last week "may have been misleading due
to the omission of this fact."
Therefore it would seem that Lagat has a pending American record of 3:27.40 run at Zurich on August 6, 2004 - 3 months after he became a USA citizen.
Then again, Lagat for personal reasons, may simply not file the paperwork for the 2004 mark as he would presumptively still have the AR anyway from Rieti.
