Re: Predictions for Chinese National Games

I guess I wasn't specific enough - I'm interested in a website in English (or any other language that uses the Latin alphabet). Thanks for trying, though ;-)

Re: Predictions for Chinese National Games

BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- China will carry out doping tests in next month's 10th National Games by the standards of the Olympic Games, a national newspaper reported on Tuesday.

A raft of tougher measures have been put in place in order to ensure the upcoming National Games, which used to be marred by doping cases, the cleanest than ever, according to China Sports Daily.

The paper said that the number of tests during the finals stage of the Games will surpass 1,600, up 20% than the last edition of the quadrennial event.

Blood tests for the Human Growth Hormone will be conducted for the first time in the Games, making China the first country in the world to conduct such tests in its national competition.

As many as 47 doping test stations have been set up, more than any previous National Games and the highest in terms of testing standards.

The doping test staff will be on around-the-clock duty and samples will be sent daily form Nanjing, the main host city for the 10th National Games, to a Beijing-based laboratory.

The lab will report negative results within 24 hours of receiving the samples with positive results reported within 48 hours.

The 10th National Games, billed as China's mini-Olympics, will be run October 12-23 in Jiangsu Province, east of China.

It is the first National Games since China implemented its first anti-doping law in March 2004 to tighten controls over banned drugs and dole out criminal penalties to serious offenders.

Chinese sports authorities have planned to use the coming National Games as an important warm-up for the doping tests during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Enditem

The female weightlifters are breaking records right and left: http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/english/do ... 484415.htm

Weather permitting, we could see some great performances in T&F as well. I haven't been able to find a competition schedule, but I presume the T&F events will take place next week?

I think I remember hearing that the T&F starts on the 15th Oct but don't hold me to that.

The athletics program of the National Games started today, but it wasn't without some drama:

                    http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2005- ... 621708.htm

The leading male runner clocked 2:06:55 but he actually went the wrong way and took an unintentional short-cut so while he was still declared the winner, he hasn't been given a winning time.

Sun Yingjie won the women's race in 2:21:01 from Zhou Chunxiu's 2:11:11 (the same woman who ran two marathons within a couple weeks earlier this year). They are the third and fourth fastest times of this season.

Looks as if the Chinese are in pretty good form...

Like I guessed, a good run from Chunxiu. Looking forward to the rest of the results now

Quite a lot of PBs and SBs already on the first day of the T&F competition, but nothing "WOW" about the results so far:

                          http://www.tilastopaja.net/db/results.p ... ID=8943918

No men broke 46sec in the 400 heats; no women broke 11.5 in the 100m heats; one woman under 53 in 400m heats; 13.09 is fastest time from 100mH heats; Liu Yinghui beat Zhang Wenxiu in the hammer – 72.19 to 71.84 (best result so far).

In the '93 and '97 games, there were staggering times and improvements in the preliminary rounds of each event, so seeing as the results (so far) of these games aren't so 'amazing', perhaps there won't be as many other-worldly performances as some people think.

And if it doesn't happen here, I really don't see a big breakthrough next year either. I'm still holding out a slim hope, but the caterpillar soup days appear to be behind us.

Looks like Sun and Chunxia recovered quickly from the marathon - Sun 31:03:90 for second behind Xing Hiina, 31:00:73 with Chunxia in third with 31:09:03.
It was PB's for places 3 to 10, some of these girls are only 19 and one just 17 in 5th place, Bai Xue,(31:28:88.)
No these arent the 93 times, but this is the future and 6 women under 32 mins is very good.

I also have to point out the womens 100 hts: ht 1 won by a 23 yr old, ht 2 by an 18 yr old, ht 3 by a 20 yr old, ht 4 by a 24 yr old....nothing great in running 11.5+ but this is rd 1 and with the right coaching perhaps these women could have a good 4x1 come Beijing. Look at Belarus, who;d have tjhought they would be world bronze 4x1 medalists?

I certainly hope that those "soup days" are behind us. What a disgrace.
