  • Klüft!

Carolina Klüft of Sweden led the world rankings in the heptathlon last year with the worst top score in decades, catching the event at a down part.

She's now en route here--if i may be so bold after two events--to have one of the highest scores in decades. PRs in both the hurdles and the HJ. Two PRs in the HJ, in fact, 1.91 and 1.94. And on her third jump at 1.97 this morning she had the height for 2-meters (6-6 3/4) plus, was just too far into the pit.

If she simply tacks on her marks from earlier this year, she's over 6800pts. If she continues to PR at the same % rate (which isn't uncommon in a big-meet multi PR) she's over 7000. And she's awesome w/ the crowd, even though they're 110% behind Barber. Really thrilling stuff.

Barber obviously on good pace, too.

      Re: Klüft!

Actually I think her PR from last year in Kingston was 1.92. I was thinking then that given her obvious jumping/speed combination we may be seeing JJK's heir rising. She ought to be the world's best long jumper before long. That should be easier than in days gone by given the sorry state of that event now, but I believe Kluft will seriously challenge the LJ WR within a few years.

Anyone have the event-by-event breakdown of the top hept marks? I guess she doesn't have a prayer of 7291 (below) at this point, but how does she compare to the other women who have achieved between 6900 and 7007?

            (12.69, 1.86/6-1 1/4, 15.80/51-10, 22.56 [4264],7.27/23-10 1/4, 45.66/149-10, 2:08.51 [3027])

i agree she really has no shot at 7291 tomorrow, but she is very young 20 or 21, so maybe in a few years.

Carolina has a chance on the european record
(her PB is entered in the last 3 events)
                CK - Carolina
                LT - Larisa Turchinskaya

                100m hurdles
                CK: 13.18 s - 1097 p
                LT: 13.40 s - 1065 p

                High jump
                CK: 1,94 m - 1158 p - total 2255 p
                LT: 1,89 m - 1093 p - total 2158 p

                Shot put
                LT: 16,45 m - 958 p - total 3116 p
                CK: 14,19 m - 807 p - total 3062 p

                200m
                CK: 22.98 s - 1081 p - total 4143 p
                LT: 23.97 s - 984 p - total 4100 p

                Long jump
                CK: 6,86 m - 1125 p - total 5268 p
                LT: 6,73 m - 1082 p - total 5182 p

                Javelin
                CK: 50,24 m - 865 p - total 6133 p
                LT: 53,94 m - 937 p - totalt 6119 p

                800 m
                CK: 2:13,03 min - 921 p - total 7054 p
                LT: 2:15,31 min - 893 p - total 7007 p

The long jump and javelin throw is hard to get PB's in, but not in the 800m.

                  Re: Klüft!

If she's just PR'd in the high jump and the 200 (and the hurdles), and not just marginally, it's very likely she's ready to PR in the long jump as well. Don't be surprised if she's over 7m tomorrow. For that matter, how many are now starting to see not one, but 2, golds for her in Paris? T&FN has her at 6 in LJ formchart.

If she continues at her current rate of improvement over previous PRs (pretty tough to do!) she'll score 7069

The IAAF has her LJ at 6.68 not 6.86. She cut it close in the Long Jump. She fouled twice before hitting the 6.68.

Long jump 6.68 1066p is the correct for the long jump. The times for 800m is correct.

Thats right she did 6.68, 18 cm from her 6.86 PB.

By the way, her 14,19 m PR in shot put yesterday was her best result in an outdoor competition, but she has done 14,48 indoors.

Not bad results from someone who is 20 years old!

but to foul the first two lj and then hit 6.68 - little pressure - handled well
