Just looked at the results from the first 2 heats. Sully is in no matter what happens in the third heat thanks to him outleaning the Czech.

Why did they even run these heats? They made all these guys run so all but 4 of them (well 5 since Lagat got sick) can go on to the next round anyways. Surely they could have just squeezed in those other 4 to the next round. Meanwhile I noticed they are only taking 8 people to the Steeple final, surely they could have put a few more people in the steeple final especially since there were 12 people in each heat (again why even bother running heats for 24 people). Only two Kenyans made the steeple final is this the first time that's ever happened?

1500 issue discussed in another thread ... Either you eliminate 17 out of 29 to go to a 12-man final in one round ... or a looser standard to let more guys in and have it mean something.

You missed the third steeple race ... 15 in the final.

iaaf manual says if you have at least 25 guys you run 3 rounds.
