      Not sure if you are kidding-must be. Webb has been a serious runner longer than Mottram. We have no idea who will ultimately end up being the faster runner but, using your argument, it would be Mottram. That's my pick.

        Why? Why should we? Why would we want to? Can't we remember both of them? Is this an either/or proposition? Can't both succeed? Why do I have so many questions?

            549 posts--all of which basically say, "Alan Webb is the man I love."

            We get it, 15 mph.

              The truth is even funnier. 549 posts and 244 mention Webb. Then there would be many Webb posts where he doesn't mention his name. I am assuming he is the Webb vote in my poll.

                The way we have busted on Webb he deserves a break. I am certain he will run at least 3:46 some day. Besides most American's don't peak until they are 25. By the time he is thirty he needs only to take off 2 seconds off his mile pr to become the fastest non-African miler in history. I guess subconsciously we have a hard time excepting that an American will someday become a top miler. What Mottram has done in the 5000 Webb will do in the mile.

                Maybe we think it is sacrilege that Webb may someday be a fast as the great Coe and Cram. I believe this ingrained inferiority complex American's have about the mile makes it hard to accept that Webb is indeed as talented as Coe, Scott, and Cram. It doesn't help when Masback says America has never been good at the mile, which in itself is a lubricious statement. I guess Sheppard, Ryan, and Scott don't count in Masback analyst.

                Face it folks Webb running a 3:46 is a done deal. Only this inferiority complex I mentioned stops us from realizing Webb’s full potential. Maybe this inferiority complex started when Scott failed to win a medal in the 1984 Olympics. Since those games American’s have believed the mile/1500 is a foreign event. Even after running a 3:47 Scott still could not get an Olympic medal

                I hope nobody is naïve enough to believe Webb has peaked and 3:48 will be his best time.

                I am sorry for the Mottram trolling but it was the only way to make this point.

                  There has to be a psychaitric category for 15mph's condition.

                  dipsowebbomania?

                  Don't worry, 15mph.

                  When I was a little kid, I had a huge crush on the actress Peggy Lipton.

                    For starters, I am a Webb fan. You are contradicting yourself with the above comment. You are conceding that Webb still has work to do to get just to Mottram's level. And Mottram isn't done yet.

                      I am just stating the obvious. I have not stated anything that is too far out. Remember, I posted "Where is Alan Webb" several years ago that was the first 100-thread post on this forum. That thread was very critical of Webb. I just call it the way I see it. Even Steve Scott wrote-off Webb after 2003. Now it is time to give Webb a fair shake. Interestingly enough Scott now says Webb will be the best US distance runner ever.
                      I have no idea if Scott will be proved correct. I am just stating that Webb will almost certainly run at least a 3:46 mile. Will that make him the best US distance runner ever? To answer that question we may have to wait a decade.

                        15mph, if you review the tape, you'll find I was a Webb defender when people were giving him a hard time. I'm not sure who you are saying "I told you so " to but most halfway knowledgeable posters here have never had a problem with Webb. I am not sure who you are arguing with here.

                          he ran 13'10 this year & probably couda gone a few secs quicker, as he faded on last lap

                          he has good endurance

                          depends on what speed he has

                          i'll some estimates

                          with 13'10

                          1'46.5 -> ~ 3'49.6

                          1'46.0 -> ~ 3'48.9

                          1'45.5 -> ~ 3'48.3

                          1'45.0 -> ~ 3'47.7

                          3'46 is not gonna happen off his current likely 800/5k ability

                          argue for maybe a 13'00 - 13'05, or some < 7'35's & then i can go back to the casio with some
