    Re: Women's 4x100 - US!

In order to break the world record.

Germany, France, Cuba, Jamaica, Canada, Russia or another team will have to step up and give the U.S. a good push.

Tell me who's going to beat them. France? No! US women's team missed Kelli and Marion. So give me some teams smart guy.

Was the US team even sans Kelli White not suppose to win in Paris? What happened? The Worlds silver medallist got run down, result, the US lost. Names on paper means NOTHING, all clear thinking US track fans should know.
I said in May that France would give the US a 4x4 run and even with Wade they almost pull it off.

Let me use the on paper approach and take the position that these teams will have better stick work.
FRANCE:same team plus if we make assumptions for them as we do for the USA then Arron will continue to improve as she "comes back". Felix was a shadow of herself. Hurtis was not on song in Paris.

Whatever? The US top 4 are way better than France's top 4. Yes Arron and Hurtis could run for us. Get a clue had White been there Torri wouldn't have been on anchor. Plus, have you ever noticed when a country like France or Austrailia had a big meet on their soil, their athletes had solid meets. Let's see if the French can do it again. I'd be more worried about the Jamaicans in the men's 4x400.

What I'm saying is you have to be consistent. Let's see if some of these other countries are as consistent in the relays as the US or the Jamaicans.

"If White was on the anchor", IF France had borrowed Flo-Jo, IF France had Ottey on loan. IF White/Gaines is prohibited from running in 2004. IF Jones choses the 4x4 over the 4x1.Cut the IF crap deal with reality. France whiiped the US butt, when they had the lead on anchor, it's over.

Yes the US lost. It's funny a few weeks ago I was the only Jaguar on this board. Will the US lose at full strength to the French,no unless France imports some super sprinters with the lax immigration policies.

<<In order to break the record Marion needs to go second ... She will carry the baton longer and will have the added incentive of "chasing" others down the backstretch>>

I hope the right coaches see this, because it's right on the money in a very smart way. It also relieves the third runner of the anxiety of HAVING to connect with an also-anxious Jones if she's going last. Just give runner #1 (PLEASE - someone who runs an amazing curve AND who has great starting ability, 1 out of 2 won't cut it) the least possible distance to go and let Marion eat up the backstraight. The psychological impact will send the 3rd runner flying into that curve with so much adrenaline that sub 41 is history.

I wanna hear from Jaguar and Lewis when Lewis and MJ on the backstraight get whupped. Promise you will come to the board and eat crow. Please remember to put Jones on the 2nd leg as she will be embarassed there. You heard it here first

Hey, Sprity get an original name and if you think anyone can outrun Marion on the back straight when she's at the top of her game then you don't know anything about track or you are just a Marion hater. It's funny i was the only Jaguar on here for a long time Hmmm! Michael Lewis knows what he's talking about too.

True if they ran Marion on 2nd she would not be run down but no one knows where she will be this year following her maternity leave. You can have Kelli White on 2nd and they can still break the record no matter how the combination is they will win as long as they get the stick around.

In Athens '97, Marion ran both 2nd legs in the semi and final in 9.91 - and these were her fastest ever relays (41.47, 41.52).

Gwen Torrence has recorded 9.80 for her split in Stuttgart (final time 41.49).

Katrin Krabbe has recorded 9.70 for her split in Tokyo '91.

Muriel Hurtis has recorded a 9.90 from the 2002 Euro Cup in Annecy.

I'm sure Marion has run faster 2nd leg splits than the ones mentioned above (I know she ran a 9.54 anchor leg split in Sydney).

Even so, when France have Muriel Hurtis (9.90 on 2nd leg from '02) and Christine Arron (9.66 anchor leg from '98), and combine it with superior passing, then it's no wonder France won in Paris.

It's not just a question of getting the stick around (their passing wasn't all that bad in Paris and they still came 2nd). They really need to work on getting flawless passing.

The East German and Soviet teams worked at relay passes over and over again (hence running 41.37 with a team far inferior to the best of today's US sprinters). Working on relay passes during the 1-2 weeks before a major champs is just not gonna cut it. They need to set aside a few sessions each month ("they" being the likely candidates - Marion, Kelli, Torri, Chryste, Gail, Angela, Inger). They need to get used to the way each other runs, and used to several different combinations (just in case one gets injured or - even worse - banned).

It's not often that two relay runners from the same team break 10s. Individually speaking, Marion, Chryste and Kelli are more than capable of doing this. In her heyday Gail ran sub-10 splits on a few occasions. If Torri keeps improving, then she should be running sub-10 splits too. If they work hard on their passing (and then put in the individual work, too) then they could bring that record close to 41.00..... possibly dip below!!
