  • Assessing the men's 100 after two rounds

The Drummond fiasco aside, what does everyone think about the first two rounds??

Suprised that Monty did as well as he did? How good a chance does he or Greene have?

Who else looked the best? Brown? Collins? Williams?

How does this revise everyone's form charts?

Finally, how do they deal with the tie for 4th in QF2??? Do they have a 9th lane, or that dreaded 3-semi deal??

From the photo finish picture (IAAF results site), it doesn't look like a tie for the 4th.

they seems to have switch places for the fotophinish picturies for quarterfinal 2 and 3 at the IAAF website.

Re: Assessing the men's 100 after two rounds

What caught my eye is the make up of the 4th quarterfinal; Collins, Chambers, Greene and Aliu all in the same quarter. I would have thought after the draw that someone might have saw that and tried a different method to spread them out. Has anyone ever (wind or not) run 10.04 and finished 4th in a quarterfinal. These 4 could finish as the top 4 in the final (in who knows what order)?

Re: Assessing the men's 100 after two rounds

The real surprise has been the return to form of Montgomery and Boldon. Tim has been blessed with a relatively easy semi. while the other semi has at least five guys capable of winning the final. Kim Collins is looking better and better to me although he was handled rather easily by the now disqualified Asafa Powell. (How good is this guy reallly?) In the post race interview Asafa expressed surprise at his prelims time (10.05). He looked capable of beating all the namebrand guys.

After viewing the dogfight in the quarter final with Collins,Greene, Chambers and Aliu and with Greene Chambers and Alui facing another tough race against each other in the semis with Brown and Boldon added I suspect the eventual winner will come from semifinal 1 ie either Kim or Tim.

              Men's 100m after 2 rounds

I just hope the U.S. does not win the 100m ... that would make 2004 so much more interesting.

Montgomery looks solid, now that he is over his peanut allergy. 9.90 should win it.

Is 'peanut allergy' Montgomery's latest rationale for his year-to-date performance levels?

Watch out- half the crowd at next spring's big Relays invitationals might show up in "Mr. Peanut" costumes if Tim is scheduled to appear!

Montgomery is looking really fast, but we can't forgel about Darrel Brown... with his new world junior record, a time the he got after the delay, imagine what he can do without any surprises like that.

                      Montgomery looks the best, IMHO.

                        Re: Men's 100m after 2 rounds

OK, here's the editorial staff medal picks, as of beer-30 (before the semis):

                        gh: Chambers/Williams/Collins
                        dan: Monty/Collins/Brown
                        sieg: Monty/Collins/Chambers
                        Jon: Monty/Collins/Chambers
                        benji: Monty/Collins/Williams

                        So, consensus is Monty/Collins/Chambers

Well FORTISDON seemed to have called it right. KIM COLLINS is the CHAMP!!! Who says nice guys never win anything. If ASAFA POWELL(the best kept secret in the CARIBBEAN) had not been dq'd the world would have witnessed a caribbean 1 2 3!!!
