ok, i see there's a thread going crazy on this topic. because i haven't followed it much, i'm starting a new thread here...
i think it's exciting the idea that women will tackle the decathlon , with the same events as the men. however, i like the heptathlon as it is. unlike male decathletes, female heptathletes are often one of the best in some individual events; so much so that JJK and eunice barber for example have competed in the hep and then other individual events, mostly the LJ. male decathletes do not.
this situation is so different from tennis, where women play 3 sets instead of 5 but there's no increased intensity or quality. at least female heptathletes' performances in indiv. event is higher due to having less events.
does that make sense????
