about how many copies does T & F News distribute per issue?

it's funny where this magazine pops up...i was surprised to find it in a random periodical shop on 2nd and 10th in manhattan, ny the other day. i almost bought it just to show support, even tho i subscribe

Unless it's a state secret, I would like to see how many copies they distribute to newsstands around the country and how many are then subsequently purchased. And I do not believe that the 2 biggies, Border's or Barnes & Noble, carry them. I too am of course a subscriber, but increased interest and newsstand sales would be a positive thing for all parties involved.

Once a year all mags must publish a report of owners and investors plus issues printed, sold ,subscriptions, newsstand copies, returns and file/waste numbers with the Audit Board of Circulation(or somesuch like name). This certifies circulation numbers used for ad sales. Something in the back of my brain says it also is a Postal Service reg because of mail subscriptions-not sure on this part.
Anyway thumb thru a years worth of issues and you will find a box with 5 1/2 pt(agate=teeny-tiney type=5 1/2 pt)type with-in it find your answers.

From the last "Statement of Ownership" Nov 04
        (ave for 12 months)

        copies printed: 23,351
        paid/requested circ: 14, 464
        dealer sales: 2,160
        total paid: 16,624
        free dist: 2,778
        copies not dist: 3,949

        what's AW's #s Jon?
What are other T&F mags' #s? (Leichtathletik, etc.)

P.S. As if we didn't know, T&FN's circ represents .005% of the US population (counting out-of-country sales!) not a rap on the mag, just the sad truth of T&F's popularity here.

Copies not distributed: 3949........? Looks like the next generation will have no trouble getting back issues!

I know that my local Borders used to carry it on a regular basis, and may still do so. It's sad that newsstand sales are so paltry. I would suspect that "Left Handed Montana Bowlers Digest" may have comparable newsstand sales...

Just out of randomness, there was a magasine distributor in Pismo Beach, CA that carried Track & Field News back in the 1990s. Stopped by to get a soda after a day at the beach, and was surprised to see Jim Spivey staring me down as he headed down a homestretch as "America:s Top Miler". Don:t know what the shop was called, but if you are ever in Pismo Beach and want to purchase a copy of TFN, it is possible they still carry current magasines in the stand.

Have never (repeat never) seen a copy here in Europe. May exist, but have not seen them on the stands. Even if it is more for North America, it can:t be stranger than seeing AOL (Technologies) in Dublin.

A related item that can be a tad irritating is seeing it at the local news-stand before you get your subscription copy. Happens to me all the time.

Can't remember exactly when (a few years ago) you could buy it on newstands here! I thought I was hallucinating1 lasted about three months or so.

I would like to know AW's circulaton numbers too. Maybe they are kept secret from floorsweepers like Jon?
