What a disgraceful spectacle! Even if he had a point, file a protest afterwards, they might have even put him in the final. I am sure his sponsors were none too pleased.
What does being there or watching it on the CBC have anything to do with it? Is Jon Drummond the first athlete who's ever been screwed by a lousy rule, a faulty piece of equipment, or an officiating error? If he wants to act like a jerk when he's representing himself or his club, that's one thing, but when he's representing his country that's a whole different matter. There are channels to file protests and those are the channels he should have pursued. He has a history of acting like the world revolves around him.
Not condoning the behavior but he was advised by the USATF team official to stay on the track and NOT accept the DQ. Here's the paragraph from the IAAF article and the link:
The Advisory Board has studied the behaviour of Jon Drummond (USA), who refused to leave the track following his disqualification after a false start, and USA Track and Field Team Admin Officer Michael Cain, who ran onto to the track to advise Drummond not to accept his disqualification, and has concluded that, in both cases, the behaviour was improper, unsporting and has brought the sport of athletics into disrepute.
"has brought the sport of athletics into disrepute."
you've got to be friggin' kidding me! With all the shenanigans that we've be subjected to in the last few years, THIS has brought track into disrepute?! L(VERY)OL.
So do you think if USATF sets up Caine as the fall guy, they can spray enough responsibility deflection fog over the whole thing to keep Drummond available for the Relay?
