On the women's list of qualifying teams, it looks like Michigan was left off in error, as only 17 automatic teams are listed instead of 18, and Michigan of course won the Great Lakes regional. Wonder how long it will take them to correct the mistake ? Bet they are howling in Ann Arbor.

No Rupp; he got injured several weeks ago and the Rupp "foot-trust" decided not to press things and take a chance that they would continued and become a bigger problem.

There was a longish discussion on LetsRun about who was going to get in (before the announcement) and bit after it was announced.

Wisconsin's Matt Withrow didn't run--injured? How about Bobby Curtis (Villanova)? I think he ran once or twice early in the season but not since.

                  From T&FN correspondent Don Kopriva

<<Jerry didn't run Withrow, Stuart Eagon or Tim Nelson...all of whom were in Wisconsin's top 7 at the Big 10 meet. Resting all of them from a 10K at regionals and the same distance 9 days later at nats. He almost didn't run Solinsky either but Chris wanted to run.

All kinds of rumors on the chat boards about Matt, but he's OK; has had a couple nagging little things but they obviously didn't prevent him from running well at Big 10.>>

                    Any other inside information available?

Wisconsin ran pretty easy. At Big Tens they ran 1,2,3,4, 6,7,8,9 and 24th. The runner in 24th, Bobby Lockhart, was their FIRST finisher at the Regional race, finishing 1:40 behind Bairu and 1:15 behind Solinsky. I don't think either one of them had to race hard to finish 8 seconds back of Lockhart. The Regional race was won by Olinger from Ohio State; he did not finish in the top 10 at Big Tens.

I'm a Colorado fan but they're pretty much running for 3rd this year, I think, so I have to pull for Wisconsin over the Hogs. The Badgers deserve a team title and hopefully will have a solid run as a team, with guys keying off each other. A nice luxury to be able to rest guys at regionals and have some of the others run less than all-out.

Curtis is redshirting this year, I believe.

Funny (but true) quote from CU coach Mark Wetmore on the Buffs website:

“On both sides, there are two teams that are a head above the rest of us. Duke and Stanford on the women’s side and Wisconsin and Arkansas on the men’s side. Behind those sets of two teams are another handful of teams that will be fighting closely for third, fourth and fifth. Of course in our business, a team can make a strategic mistake or a team meal mistake or a hotel mistake and a heavy favored team may not necessarily win.”
