Re: Fleshman's 5k
not really, the women's 5000m is an absurdly weak record. Ingrid Kristenson ran 14:37 back in the '80s, when it was a non-championship event. 14:28 is stunning only by how slow it is. This event is ready for a huge breakthrough. The men's WB has progressed from Aouita'a 13:00.40 in 1985 to the current 12:39.36 in 1998.
of course the men's 5000 is much more competitive on a world level.

Re: Fleshman's 5k
Very impressive effort from a young lady who didn't know for sure she was on the team until just before the meet!
Way to go, Lauren!

Fleshman's 5k
Lauren Fleshman just ran another personal best in the 5,000 heats at the World Championships. Unfortunetly her 15:12 was approximately 11 secs slow of what it took to reach the finals.
But a quaility summer for this young runner with several personal bests including this one today in a major competition. The experience will serve her well as the Oly Games arrive next year.
The women's 5k final should be a truely interesting international race with many different countries represented with strong competitors.Tags: None
