  • Jen Stuczynski 15-0, attempts AR

    http://www.suhrsports.com/index.php?month=12&year=2005

December 31, 2005 -- American Women's Pole Vault Record Attemped

Jenn Stuczynski attemped Stacy Dragila's US pole vault record today indoors after clearing 4.58m(15'0") clean at the USATF Rochester Indoor Holiday Classic. Suczynski and Suhr elected to go to the American record due to a good week of practice, where Stuczynski cleared 4.70m several times earlier this week. This vault ranks Jenn number one in the US. Last year no American woman cleared 15'0" indoors. Stuczysnki only attempted the American Record one time in a close attempt, then stopped jumping. Meet photos to follow.

    Jen's other meets this year:

December 17, 2005 -- Stuczynski Jumps at RWB Open

Jennifer Stuczynski vaulted at Paul Babits new vault facility today for the RWB Open in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Clearing her opening height of 4.27m (14'0"), Stuczynski raised the bar to 4.45m (14'7.25") clearing with room to spare. This height increases Stuczynski's lead in the US vault this indoor season.

December 10, 2005 -- Results York Christmas Open

U.S. Indoor National Champion Jenn Stuczynski posted an early mark at the York Christmas Open in Toronto Canada easily clearing 4.41m (14' 5.75"). Though a good early performance for the season, Stuczynski is still far from her potential with some big jumps ahead of her.

Regarding Stuczynski:s 4.70:s ... were those bar clearances or bungee clearances? Do you know how many attempts at 4.70m prior to clearing on those occasions (dvs how many misses/attempts)?

I don't know. Her coach called me to tell me the news, but I didn't get the message until 1:30am or so when I was headed home. I'll try and give them a call later today and get the full scoop.

She has been a US Indoor Champ. But, what goes on in Buffalo usually stays in Buffalo. They rarely jump outside the State. I don't think she contested the Oly Trials or 2005 Outdoor Champs?

Start list for college/open entries just posted today for Dartmouth Relays. Jen is entered from Suhr Sports. No other girls from Rick's Club on the list. Same venue where Mary Saxer set the HS national record last year. Rick must like New Hampshire.

The other Suhr Sports girls were all high school seniors last year and are now off to college.

Why "what happens in Buffalo stays in Buffalo"

              (A) Suhr does not fly, so pretty much is limited to meets he can drive to.
              (B) Surh is extremely hesitant to have his jumpers (even the elite adults) jump without him present.

              ....

jenjen - are you the Miss S in question?

                a. Fear of Flying?
                b. Why is he hesitant to not be there? That doesn't bode well for the future when his vaulters are flung all over the country.

Hmmm...I've met a few control freaks in my time but this takes the cake in athletics....

Like I said, what goes on there pretty much stays there.

Maybe the IAAF did have a reason to exclude Stuczynski's mark from their world lists after all?

Will her coach allow her to compete in this year's nationals? Or the 2008 OT? Or will she be setting WRs without ever venturing outside the state?

Not competing much outside the country is one thing. He did do a few European meets plus major championships, and he was probably never good enough at 1500/3000/5000 to get into the biggest GPs (10000 is another matter, but it hardly ever gets run on the circuit). What we have in Stuczynski's case is an athlete who was setting world-class marks last year, but wouldn't even go to the outdoor nationals. What's the point of vaulting high if you don't want to face serious competition?
