There was nothing wrong with her mark, the IAAF just never heard about it.

What business is it of ours what an athlete's motivation is? These aren't trained bears who exist for the pleasure of spectators. On the other hand, it does afford you an arena to indulge in your favorite sport, which seems to be U.S.-bashing.

Jen was very beat up from a long collegiate season. She was competing in several other events besides pole vault for her college, from December on.

They felt like she could have gone to USAs and made the world team, but she wasn't ready to go win a medal at Worlds, so it wasn't worth making the trip. In other words, it didn't fit into their long term goals.

She's planning on being around this sport a long time, so give it some time and see how things shake out.

Also you gotta remember that Jen is still a fairly new athlete to the event. At least as of last spring, Rick hadn't really taught her how to jump when he wasn't there. She'd better learn if she wants to compete internationally, but like I said, give it time. They'll figure it out sooner or later.

            I agree.

Do you know why didn't they?

Fair enough. I just don't see why some people think it's OK to ascribe and comment on the motives of, say, Chinese athletes for only competing domestically but when the athlete in question is American, want to launch WW3 against the commenter.

Interesting theory, but pray tell me where exactly did I bash the US in this thread?

                  Good reason

They felt like she could have gone to USAs and made the world team, but she wasn't ready to go win a medal at Worlds, so it wasn't worth making the trip. In other words, it didn't fit into their long term goals.
Weird reason - go for the 'experience', but that's their call, so OK.

She's planning on being around this sport a long time, so give it some time and see how things shake out.
Again weird - Experience is the best teacher.

Also you gotta remember that Jen is still a fairly new athlete to the event. At least as of last spring, Rick hadn't really taught her how to jump when he wasn't there. Very good reason - I forgot how new she is and Pole Vaulting without one's coach takes time. He's there checking literally dozens of things, so you can just jump, and without him, it's very nerve-wracking. All coaches want their PVers to be self-reliant, but even in the Olympics you can always see the jumpers looking for their coaches' help in steps, takeoff mark, pole selection, standards placement, etc.

How much exactly did she compete? Tilastopaja lists very few results for her - a total of 9 appearances in all events combined in 2005, out of which only 3 were outdoors. I realize it's not the complete record as it misses some of her best performances, I'd just like to know how much they're missing.
Also, for someone who took college competition so seriously, I find it strange she didn't compete in the NCAA. Was there a particular reason I'm not aware of?

Is this U.S. bashing from other threads? I see none here.

Her (former) school isn't an NCAA member (out of the thousands of colleges & universities in the U.S., only a couple of hundred are NCAA Div. I)

That I'm aware of - but every school is in one of the three divisions, right?

No - there's also the NAIA, which is not part of the NCAA structure at all, and has fewer of the restricting regulations. Then there's JCs and Community Colleges also.

"JenJen" is Not Jen. S. - clarification.

Just for clarification - someone asked if I were Jenn S. Sorry for the confusion, I'm a coach in Tucson AZ.

Rick phoned me last May. He mentioned during the conversation that she was a javelin scorer at her national championships. She's good and she's tall. This would make her the tallest 15ft jumper? I think.

hey, there's a fun spin on this

She's as tall as Thorey edda
