knock off all that bs about his actions...when you are in the same spot, let's see what you do, arm chair critics....

and today...was it ok for el guerrouj to lay down and cover himself with his flag???? etc, etc.

the rule is bad, discriminatory and until the starters start correctly (iaaf 162.3)and the blocks are set to 0.00, block false starts will happen and athletes who work every day and make their living at it, will go ballistic over injustice - and rightly so....go, jon!

Give me a break. Comparing El G's post-victory celebration and Drummond's antics is ludicrous. El G was CELEBRATING because he WON his race. Drummond was behaving like an immature child and holding up the race because he broke the rules and they called him for it.

By the way, in response to your challenge of "let's see what you do, arm chair critics:"

The people who post on this board are intelligent people who respect the sport of track and field. I feel fairly certain that they would do what any gentleman would do: appeal through the proper channels and, if that appeal failed, respectfully walk away.

          "don't overkill a mistake...."

So speaks the woman who has started TWO threads on this issue and apparently wants to keep the pot stirred. Guess what Louise? He screwed up and he's out. Deal with it.

Distress is complaining to the officials, or even bursting into tears like the young lady did the other night. Mugging to the crowd, lying in the track, and holding up the meet for 20 minutes is just putting on a show of what a immature fool you are.

Sure the rule is dumb, but it IS the rule, Drummond knew it was the rule, and he violated it. I can certainly understand why he was upset, and why he protested to the judges, but a 34 year-old man does not then put on a temper tantrum like an overgrown baby -- that is just inexcusable under ANY circumstances.

jon drummond had a tantrum that my two year old would not even be able to replicate, at least my boy stops after a few mins, drummond needed 40 mins ! shame on jon for acting this way, but shame on espn and the sports news casts who choose to focus on that instead of kelli's brilliant victory !

It's tough arguing with your seventh-grade-level logic, but I'll try.

Look: when did I ever say that celebration and distress are not both allowed? Of course they're both allowed.

We are not talking about emotions here.

What I am talking about is how people DEAL with those emotions.

El G dealt with victory in a way that was commensurate with the way athletes typically deal with winning a world championship; what he did was perfectly acceptable.

What is NOT acceptable is to throw a tantrum like a three-year-old. What IS acceptable is to be a gentleman and walk away.

Louise, are you really saying that every single person on this message board would have lay down on the track and held up the meet as a result of being disqualified? I really don't think so.
