  • And a few more Russian results...

Dmitriy Kuptsov vaulted 5.75 on sunday.

Aleksey Drozdov scored 6129 in a heptathlon recently. Not as high as his best from last year, but this still would have ranked him 3rd in the world in 2005, and is an ominous sign to the others that he will be ready for Moscow. Yuliya Ignatkina won the pentathlon with 4511, (which would have ranked her 7th on the world lists last year) but Svetlana Ladokhina still leads the world lists with 4613 (good enough for 4th on last years lists) and beat Ignatkina by 300 pts in that decemeber encounter

Tatyana Lebedeva insisted she would compete just in the triple jump this indoor season, but she still competed in the long jump at a meet in Volgograd, jumping 6.52. However, she was beaten by Olga Kucherenko's PB of 6.61. Kucherenko is just 20 so one for the future and currently leads the world lists.

Slesarenko jumped 1.88, but did not attempt 1.91 as she ahd won the competition.

Tabakova ran 7.13 in the 60m. 400m specialist Pospelova ran 7.20 in the heats but did not contest the final.

Ivanova 23.48 in the 200m, ahead of world finalist Gushina, who ran 23.66

    Krasnomovets 51.44 in the 400m

Skhurlatov won the men's LJ with 7.97
    ------------------------------------------------
    And in Germany...

Unger ran 6.78/6.81 in his 60m heats

Marion Wagner, injured last summer, opened with 7.43/23.79 double

Actually, last year he scored 6196 with hand timing and from his times in the 60 and 60H it looked like the timers were generous to him. He was given 6.7h and 8.0h, while his other fastest times last season were 7.08 and 8.40. Were it not for that, his score might not have been higher than 6129...

Indeed it might not, but as it's on the IAAF lists I'll accept it, just as I do 10.49!

He's a good athlete though, good potential, with such broad shoulders!

Not Russian results, but German heptathlete Claudia Tonn long jumped 6.54 on saturday for a new indoor PB. She's had a change of coach this winter and it looks to be paying off.

In Chemnitz a week earlier World 400m Silver medalist from Seville 99, Anja Rucker, ran an abysmal 24.46 over 200m. I thought she'd retired but obviously she's still 'going strong'. Ahem.

She added an equally abysmal 54,04 for a win on 23/01/06.
Well, at least she's trying hard.

Olga Kotlyarova will also be running the 400m today too, after her WL in the 800 yesterday. She wasnt initially down for the 400m but decided to run after yesterday's excellent performance.

Also of interest is Yulia Guschina's addition to the start lists of the 400m as well. After her 22.82 WL she also asked to run the quarter mile.

                      WOAH - check the women's 400m results!!

                      Olga Zaytseva - 50.15 (5th on all-time lists)
                      Olesya Krasnomovets - 50.40 (=8th on all-time lists)
                      Natalya Antyukh - 50.50 (13th on all-time lists)

Olga Kotlyarova won the 'B' race in 51.22, which led the world lists for a few minutes.

Zaytseva made a good breakthrough last year, running 50.06 and winning the Euro U23 title. But 50.15 is something else!!

It's probably that ridiculous illegally-banked track there.

That didn't last long as a world-leading mark. Blanka Vlasic ended up winning the competition with 2.00!
