    • Last night in Kristiansand, Sondre Moen broke Jos Hermens' 44-year-old European Records for the Hour and 20,000m. Moens covered 21,132 meters [or 21,131m -- conflicting reports. (Hermens 20,944) after passing 20,000m in 56:53.2 (Hermens 57:24.2). Both of Moen's marks rate #2 on the all-time list behind Haile Gebrselasie's World Records (21,285m/56:26.0). I have not seen any other splits for Moen. [

      • Interesting....44 years...Dionisio Castro just missed Hermen's mark by 1 meter back in 1990 when it was still the WR.

I see he wore Vapor flys....

        • Apparently, the photos in the article I linked in my earlier post about Moens' European Record for the Hour/20km were from his 25,000m race in Oslo in June. Below is a link to a video of parts of his Hour ER.

There was a rather large starting field. It looks like Moen again ran in Vaporflies, or some iteration thereof. Another interesting feature was the car on the track, maybe not pacing him but giving video coverage?

You can hear the gun being fired at the 13:40 mark, signaling 1 minute to run. It was interesting to see the officials following him in the last few seconds with a cone to place marking his distance. Oddly, I didn't see any officials marking the distance of other runners. However, some of them continued to run after the 60-minute mark, perhaps to get to 20 kilometers. I am still looking for full results.

          • Here's the report from the Norwegian federation web site, with more details about Moens' run. Seems it was contested concurrently with a 10,000m races, explaining most of the the large pack for the first part of the race. Splits: 2k 5:43, 2k 8:35, 6k 17:14 ("a few seconds behind the record schedule", 8k 22:55, 10k 28:35. This report gave the 20k time as 56:51.60 (maybe unofficial).

              • Conor, Am I correct in remembering you writing that you did a couple of hour runs? What kind of distance did you cover? Do you remember when you ran those races?

I've done a few....couple at Hayward....best was around 10.5 miles back in 1980 or so.

To raise funds for resurfacing Hayward they had a whole day of hour runs....a few ran over 12 miles.

                        • Terrific win in the 400 at the Czech Championships for 18yo Barbora Malíková (DoB 30.12.2001), coming from 5 metres down off the final bend to defeat the favourite Lada Vondrová (PB/SB 51.35) in a NU20R, 51.65. Malíková was the World U18 champion in 2017 (aged 15!) & European U18 champion from 2018.

The race is at the 1h 10m mark at https://www.ceskatelevize.cz/porady/...cr-2020-plzen/ (no geo-blocking) - Malíková is in lane 5 in the all-blue kit.

It sucks for her that the World U20 Championships were postponed this year - she's 2 days too old to be eligible for the re-arranged championships next year!
