But, all the talk is only of D'Amato going for the record. Maybe that's because she was the one who asked for the race to be arranged?
I think Seidel is the better athlete, there are reasons that she finished the marathon better than D'Amato. Of course we do not know what sort of training and what shape Molly is in and how much she has prepped for this race. At least color me not surprised if she wins; since the time is not all that tough the odds of breaking it are good. On the other hand, a close race might result in a slower time as they jockey some and neither wants to be the rabbit for the other one.
D'Amato crushed the Record with her 51:21.
Seidel was probably sub-53 in 2nd, with 2 or 3 others in the 54-55 range.
This was for the AR for Women Only---previous best by Janet Bawcom--52:12.

heat 7 Charles Kamau Wanjiku 27:30.09 (I looked him up on Tilastopaja; his DOB is just listed as "00", so he's going to be "21" soon. He ran a 29:45 road 10k in Birmingham "Ain't no ham like Birmingham", ALA, and a 66:38A half in Denver in 2018, then in 2019 he finished 3rd in U20 10,000 in 29:52.5A, and 12th in the WC Trials, 29:28.73A, both in Nairobi.)

By 28 seconds. The new spikes are destroying the old records left and right.
The top three in men's 10000m are all under the old NR. Osako had a new PB and only good for 7th.
Aizawa, Tanaka, Niiya all clinched their Olympic berths. Ito and Hironaka will get another chance next spring. (They are already under the standard.) Bando, Tamura and Yamaguchi just missed the standard.
Too bad the new SC sensation (Miura) missed the meet. He apparently had a bruise on his foot.
