When Niwot High School track coach Maurice Henriques discovered he had contracted the coronavirus, he was neither surprised nor intimidated. Henriques's wife Christina works as a nurse and with her increased exposure, they were both prepared for a COVID-19 diagnosis.

Fortunately for Henriques, he believes his week-plus stretch of mild symptoms is improving and his wife's symptoms have subsided after just a few days. His wife has even been cleared to return to work as soon as next week. "She's a lot tougher than me I guess," Henriques said with a chuckle.

Ralph Davis died of COVID-19 complications Wednesday morning. He was 60 and a beloved basketball and track coach, who left an impression on all he touched, even Jason Friske, who briefly worked with him in 2009.

Nick Modugno was the godfather of Valhalla's track and field program, serving as the varsity head coach for nearly 40 years. He was a father figure and inspiration to everyone representing the maroon and white, as well, becoming a legend in the Viking community.

His legacy went beyond the painted lanes of a track or the school hallways.

Valhalla is mourning the loss of its former coach and physical education teacher. Modugno passed away on Wednesday at the age of 91 due to complications from COVID-19. Generations of former runners and students took to social media following his passing, memorializing their beloved coach and teacher by posting photos and stories.

We lost overnight to the coronavirus a member of our Haworth 5K & 10K race committee named Jack Ferber. He had been a cancer patient for much longer than I have been and was in the hospital for a month. The loss has hit our committee hard. Fortunately, the races are five months away on September 26th - we hope.
