It does seem a little bit of a lottery in how it affects people. Or rather, not obvious whose immune system will cope; my partner doesn't exercise, drinks, and has an extremely stressful job, while I don't really drink at all, exercise 5x a week etc., yet my symptoms were broader & more intense. I am 7 years older though. We used to joke that he would go first because "I am fit". Well, maybe my immune systems isn't as good as I thought it was, and those 7 years maybe do make a difference. Then of course, there's inbuilt genetics. My dad only had one kidney working in his 60s, I'm sure I inherit my weakness there from him. On the other hand, my mother would hardly get ill. We used to joke that she "had the constitution of a German Lesbian" because she was so tough. I didn't inherit that. Well, maybe the lesbian bit.

A man known for competing in track and field — setting long-standing records at his university and ascending to the Olympic games — has died of coronavirus in North Carolina. Lee Vernon McNeill, a former star runner at East Carolina University, struggled to breathe after he was diagnosed with the coronavirus in late August, his family said.

He was a sprinter who won gold medals in the 4 x 100 relay at both the 1987 Pan American Games and 1987 World Championships, according to the Olympic Games website. The following year, McNeill competed in the 4 x 100 at the Olympics in Seoul. The Soviet Union’s team came out on top in the event.

Arnie Robinson Jr., an Olympic gold medalist and a track and field Hall of Famer, died after testing positive for COVID-19, his family said. He was 72.

Robinson was "one of the greatest long jumpers in history," USA Track & Field said in a statement on his Dec. 1 passing.


The lifelong San Diegan medaled in two Olympics in the long jump, taking silver in 1972 in Munich and gold in 1976 in Montreal.

He was the top-ranked long jumper in the world from 1976 to 1978, the organization said, with a career-best jump of 27 feet, 4 3/4 inches in 1976.

D’Anthony Dorsey, who played football and competed for the track and field team at Wittenberg University, died from COVID-19 at 24, his family announced.

Dorsey died Tuesday in the COVID-19 intensive care unit at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center in Florida, according to a report by The Ledger. He got sick after school started in August, his family told the newspaper.

Ron held seven Iowa and two national track records when he graduated from Perry High School in 1965. He went on to become a four-time All-American in track at then Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman State.

As FOX 26 Sports reported late Thursday night on Twitter legendary Prairie View A&M Track and Field Coach Barbara Jacket, who was with the school from 1966 to 1991, passed away Thursday at the age of 87.

According to her niece, Carlotta Allen, it was from dementia and complications with COVID.

It would take a week to go over all of Barbara's accomplishments which at the top of the list includes being the head coach of the U.S. Women's track team for the 1992 Olympics when they had their most success at that time since 1956. She was the second African-American female to be a head coach for the U.S. Olympic Team.

Former Mead High School track and field coach and state track and field hall of famer Gary Baskett died on Thursday at 77, according to Mead athletic director John Barrington.

Baskett took an already successful boys program at Mead and turned it into one of the most dominant in state history during his 20 years.

After retiring from Mead, Baskett coached 20 NCAA national qualifiers and eight All-Americans over four years at Whitworth. He was a National Masters shot put champion and official, and assisted at Community Colleges of Spokane and Mt. Spokane High School.
