if you take away bekele's epo, he would have run 27:39 .......that is quite doable by americans. time to throw out the trash, hermans, rosa etc.

And you evidence for the repeated EPO claims is?

Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes!

Even if the rest of the world had not improved over the last 10 - 15 years they would still be beating the Americans because we have gotten slower. No American is running the times Salazar or Nenow or Virgin were running 15 to 20 years ago.

Just because we haven't progressed (whatever the reason) don't try and justify it by accusing everyone else as cheating.

They are tested and they pass the tests and so we must assume them as clean until we have proof otherwise. Wasn't Pablo Sierra, the Spanish Marathoner, suspended by their athletic federation for making accusations without proof.

        He didn't do all that bad - 14th in 28:14. Better then Meb - 16th 28:35.

You can't fault our guys who are competing. Hey, they are better than most, if not all of us writing in. They train their asses off and they give it a great effort.

The reason Culpepper wasn't in the top 5 is that he just isn't fast enough.

The problem is our system. Attracting talent then nurturing the talent. The system is letting the U.S. down not the athletes who are giving it everything they have. No-shows on the other hand should be critcized for not even giving it a shot.

Yes, our system does work against international success...as I've said a couple of times on this board--the old March thru June season (school season) tends to require peaking twice and it's hard enough to peak once! Why, for example, do we always get these fast 10K and 5K times way back in April at the Stanford meets? And then, by late summer, these same athletes are running significantly slower? Somehow we need to break out of that...

how dumb can you be? if anybody, i mean anybody, tests positive at iaaf championship, the iaaf looks bad and they lose $$$. won't happen here.
only the tour de france runs a squeky clean endurance race. and who wins?! an american.

For any US distance runners to make the finals is a triumph! Right now Culpepper is king of US distance runners.
              Hail to the king Culpepper.

""The reason Culpepper wasn't in the top 5 is that he just isn't fast enough." - Cyril

Exactly. The truth (and most of us know it) is simply that we currently don't have a top flight distance corps (Meb/KK/culpepper in the marathon maybe). Every event has its lulls, and the US is in one now distance-wise. Our guys DO train their asses off as noted, and you can't simply knock 2-3 seconds off per lap in the 5k/10k.

Young guys like Ritz/Webb/Lincoln may blossom - but whether the win or lose I'll cheer em' on cause their the best we have.

This was a good race for the Americans. There where actually 3 Americans in the 10,000 meters finals!! Obviously, the 10,000 is now America's best distance event.
What are US 10,000 meters runners doing right.

This is a very good sign for US distance running. I thought only the Kenyans were capable of sending 3 finalists in this event.

                  This is great news!

                    Re: ALAN CULPEPPER

This is the first time I believe there has been 3 Americans in the finals of a world championship 10,000 meters. In team points the US would have finished a respectable 3rd place in this race.

Instead of criticizing our 10,000 meters runners we should praise them for making the finals! This was probably the deepest 10,000 meter field ever.

This is the most positive development in US distance running in years.

The 10,000 meters is indeed now America's best distance event.

Actually the US 10,000 team got weaker after the race. Culpepper said he's moving up to the marathon to stay. If Meb, Abdi, and Brown follow him the US may actually have a decent marathon team at the Olympics.

Culpepper is a pretty good marathoner. Still the 10k may be his best event.

Lets hope Krummenacker medals in the 800meters.

in edmonton alan, meb and abdi all ran in the 10,000 final. i would have much rather have had abdi run out in paris instead of dan browne but that's the way it went.

i would consider the 10,000-meter performance by alan and meb as a disappointment. i'm not trying to be over critical but neither athlete could find a way to break 28 minutes. sorry, i still like both meb and alan a lot.

Oh yeah, what a choke. He only ran 67 second quarters. Give me a break and support our guys who made the final (no easy feat).

I am sure nobody wanted Alan to finish better/faster than himself.

Our 10,000 meters guys did fine. It is our 1500 meter runners that I am worried about. With the exception of Krummenacker none of our 1500 meter runners seem capable of running under 3:35.

Two years ago I though Alan Webb would be running a 3:32 1500 meters by now. Because Webb has not stepped up there is a hugh hole in US 1500 meter running. It will be interesting to see how Webb does next year.
