    Re: Men's 800 qualifying

What was really goofy was qualifyin in the Women's 800 and other events in which 5 trial heats advanced to a three-heat semi. Better to take top 3 from each heat plus one time qualifier to a two-heat semi.

I've always felt that the way they've run the 800 heats the last few years is a shame. Part of it is actually due to Kip Keino complaining after the 84 Games, saying the way they were set up worked against Kenya. Seems they work against a lot of people. They should go back to running heats with the top 4 in, and then maybe a few qualifiers on time. So what if there is an extra round? GIve them an extra day's rest.

Is 800 qualifying a little goofy? It just doesn't seem fair that only two move on in each heat. If you're unfortunate to get in a slow heat with lots of good guys, and then you're out-leaned, you're gone --
Other events don't have such strict rules on moving out of heats, do they?

I have a feeling Krummenacker is going to fly.

    Boy was I wrong!

Robinson did get through on appeal, and justifiably so... the Moroccan gave him a huge shove...

Burley was all over the line on the first turn.

Robinson *may* get through on an appeal. Chehibi, who fouled him, was DQed.

    started a topic Men's 800 qualifying

    Men's 800 qualifying

8 heats, top 2 in each move on, PLUS 8 fastest beyond those two

It looks like the cutoff for fastest 8 will be the fastest 1:47 time- a 1:47.21 in heat 8.

Krumannacker is certainly in- he was lucky enough to get in the fast heat and finished in 1:45.84 in a five-way blanket finish.

Khadevis Robinson was on the bubble with a 1:47.85 and didn't make it.

Sam Burley and Fred Thegu (SOL) both got DQ'd in heat 5. Somebody who saw it will have to fill us in what hapopened.
Working...
