yeah & he had a 9.91pb coming into og, so ambling a 9.99 is nothing unexpected

then he absolutely freezes in the final & still runs 9.94

so his "freeze" is still pretty damn good!

as for '03, if you didn't cotton on, let me explain it slowly : in brussels he whupped gatlin 10.02 to 10.09 when gatlin had already run 9.97 just 3/52 earlier

if the evidence of that allied to his '03 heat win isn't telling you that you've got a huge sub-10 guy on your hands, when he gets the right race, well, you better find yourself some new eye-glasses...

        If ... Then ...

Based on your logic ... If Powell, being a 10.02, beat Gatlin being a 9.97, then Powell was a huge sub 10 guy ...

        Therefore ...

If Gatlin, being a 9.85 guy, beats Powell whose proven to be able to run 9.77, then Gatlin MUST be a 9.68 guy in waiting (difference between them in the Athens final) !!!!!

Just stupid logic dude !!!! Ya win some, and ya lose some ... Comparing PR's based on logic means squat - as does speculation based on same ... Akin to country barbershop talk ... They run what they run ... Powell was 10.02 in '03 ... He had LOTS of opportunitites to run better and didn't ... He was what he was ...

By the way, why are you assuming that he "froze" in the Olympic final ... Why didn't he just get beat ??? Is the asumption that everyone that doesn't WIN a race froze ... Or is that just part of the Asafa Rules ??? Or is that your interpretation of the CNS shut down theory ??? LOL ....

          read it again

it's based on his ridiculously easy 10.09 heat

          ehh???

when did gatlin in 9.85 shape beat safa in 9.77 shape in 9.68 in a race safa completed ???

if you've read any of the posts recently, their current adjusted pbs accounting for wind/rt show no significant difference

consensus opinion around here is that he "froze"

consensus means more than 1 opinion, as against the 1 opinion you're offering...

And at one time concensus opinion was that the world was flat too !!!! Concensus opinion means little ... Can just as easily mean a whole lot of people are wrong ...

You keep throwing around your adjusted opinions of times as if they are facts .... Fact is they are simply your opinions ... And all I am saying is that the facts of the matter speak for themselves ... I'm sorry that hurts your feelings ... Get over it ...

Both have done what they have actually done ... And time will tell what will happen next ... But you need to take note that PR's don't race, athletes race ... That why Carl, Linford, Donovan, Mo and Gat have gold ... And a WHOLE LOT of other very fast sprinters don't ... Including the current and former WR holders - Asafa Powell, Tim Montgomery, Leroy Burrell, and Calvin Smith ... Not to mention a whole lot of 9.8s ... So you put your eye and glasses and calculator and whatever else you feel like you need to whatever races and results you want ... Cause at the end of the day they still gotta race ... ;-)

              buck up your ideas dude

around here consensus means a lot - we've thrashed thru this all a hundred times on this forum & the consensus was that he "froze"

if you think your lone pipsqueaking is going to change things, you'd better come up with a helluva lot better !

              yawn...

are you going to get anywhere fast with any of this ?

preferably at least within the next 9.77 years

so obviously on that historic day in '05, safa wasn't racing ?

obviously he musta been on a shopping trip, but the writers of the guiness book just decided to put his name in their publication for a joke ?

Powell Finishes Third in Comeback Race
                          • Jan 28, 2006 : 5:07 pm ET
                            (wire report)

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Asafa Powell, the world record holder at 100 meters, finished third over 400 meters in his first race in six months on Saturday.

Sidelined by a groin injury since last June, Powell was in good position entering the final straight in the local race but eased up with 50 meters to go.

He finished in 48.01 seconds, trailing winner Xavier Brown (47.00) and Mario Forsythe (47.08).

Stephen Francis, Powell's coach, said the race went according to plan.

"He ran 0.5 seconds faster than last year (in a similar race) so we are quite satisfied with how things went," Francis said.

Powell is expected to run at another local meet on Feb. 25 before leaving for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, in March.

Powell set a world record of 9.77 in the 100 last June in Athens, Greece, but was injured two weeks later at Jamaica's national trials and missed the world championships in August.
