  • Wilson Kipketer's 800 meter world record splits

Does anyone know what his 400 splits were when he ran 1:41.11?

  • #2
From the IAAF WR Progressions book compiled by Richard Hymans:

    200m: 23.8
    400m: 25.5 (49.3)
    600m: 25.3 (1:14.6)
    800m: 26.5 (51.8 ) (1:41.1)

    - edited to get rid of an emoticon that popped up.

the amazing thing is that 23y previously john kipkurgat went thru 600m 1.4s faster !!!

        http://www.algonet.se/~pela2/athletics/m_600no.htm

i can't find what time he finished the race in ( someone please look it up ), but it is a remarkable achievement considering the actual wr is a very respectable 1'12.81 from johhny gray

TrackNewsletter lists him in 4th behind a 1:49.9, so it's likely he didn't even break 1:50!

            Coe's were: 24.4 - 25.3 (49.7) - 25.3 - 26.7 (52.0) = 1:41.73

And, as we know, Kipketer went thru the 400 in a blazing 48.3 in his 1:41.24 a week or so prior to the 1:41.11.

What? You've got to be kidding me. We all know that NO one on this board goes to see actual meets. Only rich, effete snobs would even think of doing so. No, I pulled this info out of our old favorite resource book: the IAAF WR Progressions. But now that you mention it, it sure WOULD have been nice to have seen this race...

Really amazing stuff to get out that fast and know history and unbelieveable pain awaits you at the finish line if you can just hold on. :x I quess its like going out in 1:50 at 800 in a mile.

Is that the fastest any world class 800 runner has ever gone out? Im quessing not! :?

                          I look at this:

                          200m: 23.8
                          400m: 25.5 (49.3)
                          600m: 25.3 (1:14.6)
                          800m: 26.5 (51.8 ) (1:41.1)
and I truly believe it won't be that long before someone can go out like that and hold the 25.3 split at the end and VIOLA - 1:39.9!

                          or maybe a 24.3-25.2-25.2-25.2?

Could it be . . . Wariner?!

MJ could have, though. Ran a 1:38 in practice one time.

Atfter finishing a 48.3 on the way to a 800, the next 200 hundred is 57 miles and the last 200 hundred is 57 light years. And, as anybody who has run an allout 800 knows , in the last 5 yards, time actually goes backwards. Many times my jockstrap has been replaced by a diaper and thank god!!
