  • September T&FN

So I turn off ESPN2, walk out to the the mail box, and there's this month's issue. Talk about a quick fix. It's the calm before the storm issue, so nothing to rant or rave about, but tons of info. It seems they are getting away from the fluff pieces - GOOD!
I like the little sidebar story entitled:
'Monty's Season Over?' The irony is rich.
Big article on Dragila with sidebar on Isinbayeva - oops, already forgot Ms. Feofanova?
I learn that Thiam just hopes to make the women's 400 final.
I learn my school is preseason fave for NCAA XC.
Lastly an entertaining rant by gh on ranting.
This should hold me over till tomorrow.

Great issue as usual. But I have one compaint. The cover. Why is an unproven, 16 yr. old, who is not running the worlds on the cover? Can you say Obea Moore, William Reed, Clinton Davis?

Well, there's plenty of precedent for putting unproven teens on the cover. But Bolt is actually deserving with his world class times. It's about time tfn started recognizing great foreign juniors.

My beef is with the centerfold--m&f athletics or whatever. It's probably been covered on another thread, but what happened to those great posters?

gh offered some lame-o excuse about number of pages vs. 'have-to-have' content. I think it's a ploy to come out with a new line of 'real' posters like they had in the early 70's (that lined my dorm wall) that were so good. Munich '72 seemed to the heyday as you could even buy psychodelic black-light Olympic posters.
