  • Latest "From the editor" column

I thought, this might be fun to compare.

I would classify myself as #7 (combination of about 4/6).

    Super-old topic (Cordner's)
    1, Absolutely.
    2. I HATE tactical dist races (except Centro's OG win)!
    3. Absolutely.
    4. Not so much; hate to peg a future super-star and then watch the burn-out. Exceptions: SydMcL & Mondo, cuz they were so obvious.
    5. Absolutely.
    6. Nope.
    7. Obviously.

I think what elevates me to tafnuttery is that I like M&F equally and at all levels and all events: HS, college, national, international.
That said, my 'limitations' are that I am a Marks Snob and as I said in #2, I really can't take anything but a Pre-esque distance race. They have to be all-out from the start, JUST LIKE in every other event. I'm not interested in who has the best final kick; I want to know who was the best at the entire distance. Even at full-out all the way, someone is going to finsh fastest ala Jim Ryun, who could run great times off a withering kick, which, in his case, was indeed the fastest way to run the entire race.

Great column for discussion here. I guess I could fall into the #8 category, with a heavy dose of #9.

I like all events, but some more than others, of course. The 4x400 would be my favorite track event, but it's hard to pick a favorite field event except to note the pole vault would be last on my list.

I would say the Walks but then I'd have to deal with MJR!

What do you expect from someone who disdains the Beatles? 🤣

I like the walks, especially at the international level. The World Cup in San Jose was very exciting.

            I'm not a T&FN sbscriber so I don't know what's going on here.

Would someone mind posting the salient parts of the column so that I can play along? Thanks.

In theory, at least, the column is not behind the paywall

(if it were and somebody posted the "salient parts" it would be frowned upon rather strongly)

Definitely #7 for me, with peaks of #2 and #5. I have only seen a couple of race walk competitions, but they were fun (see my #2 bent).

Hmmm, 9,7,3,1 and not sure that's the right order.

                    9, 8, 7, 1, 2, 4

I guess all the officiating and 36 USATF Annual Meetings puts me in the “8” category.

I love anything from Youth, HS, College, Post-Collegiate, Elite, to Masters. And Track & Field, LDR, and RW.

If it isn’t obvious from my handle, my favorite event is the 800m - with the 4x400 close behind.

                        7,1,2, 4,5 - in that order - though on good days I think I’m damn good 5.
