That was the best one yet, kuha!

Sorry to bring reality to that Karlsruhe song and dance, but here is the scoop.

Bekele:s manager, Jos Hermens, yesterday confirmed to IAAF that the problem had now healed totally, and that the 23-year-old would be fit and ready for his Mile adventure in New York.

Because he wanted to focus on Millrose.

As great as KB is I have to go with BL. Race smarts, experience in the distance and on the boards all favor the American. Time is insignificant - it will likely be relatively slow (3:57-3:58).

I do hope to see Bekele get into more races and challenge himself at the distance outdoors this summer. It would be interesting to see what he could do at 15 outdoors with a little experience.

That's the party line, but as somebody gue$$ed up above, any time an athlete pulls out of a scheduled meet and competes the next, one has to wonder about the back story. I'm in no way saying I've heard this is true in this case, or that Bekele or his management have any such history; just saying that's a very common happenstance.

And if so, I'd be just about as surprised as Claude Rains was to find that there was gambling going on at Rick's...

As a (fair weather) capitalist, I think it's wonderful that NYC could pony up more than the other meet!

Totally with ya on that, Cyril! No major championships this year (at least nothing that should concern someone like Bekele), and he's still young. I would love to see him do NOTHING BUT the mile/1500 and maybe a 3K here and there.

Even if he's not exceptional in those disciplines (which I doubt will be the case) he can step back up to the 5 and 10 next year. That way he'll never wonder "What if . . . ?" and the 10 will feel like a jog!

I am NOT one of those who would like to see him run a marathon NOW. He won't run it any faster than he'll be capable of when he's in his 30's.

Hmmm. I'm off on a tangent on my own thread!

Seems like everyone wants a piece of this news, but at which cost?

He gets moved up a placing in my eyes just for finding the Affinia Dumont or
the 50 .Dumont is actually a good little known hotel 10 mins stroll from MSG.

                          Lagat

my guess -fast first two laps strings BK off the back as he first gets his "Garden legs" undercontrol.
