What a shambles. Surely his position is untenable.

that would have to include the discus-for-form competition

I believe wrestling was one of the original Olympic events. This raises the question, did they have weight class in the first Olympics?

I've read that, for combat sports of boxing, wrestling and pankration, the only "fairness" divisions in everyday competition was mens and boys.

The theory was probably that you don't get weight divisions in war, so why would you have them in combat training events like these?

How about a form of the javelin throw that emphasizes accuracy in lieu of distance?

                      Lazy person modern pentathlon:
Dart throwing combine with drinking a bottle of beer at each round.
Beer Mile run, you know how this works.
Belly flopping/diving into pool (I know it is a style points).
Bocce ball and yes drinking hard liquor in between rounds.
Final event: It is a toss up between bowling or hotdog eating contest.

It is 21st century and IOC is only after money so go for it IOC. There could be men, women, and mixed catagories.

My guess would be wall climbing and rapelling back down.

Keep the horses and rename it the 19th Century Pentathlon.

                            In the ancient Greek Games:
                            • Ekebolon - won by distance
                            • Stochastikon - won by accuracy.

                              Stohastikon would be a no-no. 😊

                              Stohastikon
Throwing the javelin at a target was mostly performed on horseback. In this event, the athlete had to aim his javelin at a round target, often a shield, while riding a horse. The horse's movement affected the rider's steadiness and limited the control he had over his movements. The rider should achieve complete coordination of the horse's gallop and the movement of his hand while keeping his eyes focused on the target. The stohastikon javelin throw was one of the main events of the Panathenaic and the Heraian Games.

                                Should be a YES.
What a great crowd pleasing event.

In fact they could do the Ekebolon as well from horseback.
