Veteran Chris Thompson, who turns 40 next month, produced a masterful and highly emotional performance to win the British Olympic Marathon trials in the unusual surroundings of London's Kew Gardens on Friday to secure his place in Tokyo. While Thompson punched the air and let out a scream of joy after crossing the line following years of frustration, Steph Davis, still a part-timer, burst into tears after destroying the field and her own personal best to win the women's race and also qualify only a couple of years after she took up serious training. In the absence of the usual April London Marathon, the trials were set up to give Britain's elite a road to Tokyo, and Thompson took full advantage.
Chris Thompson was 2:10:50, and joins Callum Hawkins and Ben Connor on the Olympic team.
Steph Davis won the women's race in 2:27:16.
From home-page-linked article, 10 Russians can compete in Tokyo.
Seems like an odd number to pick, and some guilty people might be there at the expense of innocent ones.
What's your pick?
Lasitskene, Sidorova, Akimenko, Shubenkov, Ivanyuk, Koneva . . .
ATK & @gm
thanks for those. Ok, so, I'm not being thick here - or difficult - but those don't seem to help me. Re the 10 Russian athletes eligible for competition this year, I can't see anywhere that Klishina is one of those? Have the 10 been named yet? In fact, before that 7m+ LJ, I would not have thought she would be in the 10, but with that performance she may well be considered by Rus Athletics now.
Re gm's link, unless it's taken me to a different page, the latest article I can see is from 2016 when she was granted neutral status...but I thought that had been gazumped & everything was re-set? It didn't mean she was forever competing as a neutral?

Am I missing something?
You'd probably get a better response asking in an appropriate thread (this is about US outdoor results). But I honestly haven't seen anything that said Russian athletes cant compete outside of major competitions. But I dont follow this whole Russian story very well anyway.
