  • S'CR obviously has a chip on her shoulder and some narcissism - nothing a little maturity can't fix. She's used to being the alpha (big fish, smaller pond), but this year is her global coming-out and she'll grow a lot. I hope everyone gets to the Tokyo Finals after a 10.7x semi!

NFL great Jim Brown once said that "every top running back believes themselves to be a God". To pick and choose an elite sprinter based on how someone is percieved is a mistake... I'm sure that even the classy SAFP has a healthy amount of narcissism.

This, IMO, indicates she's in good enough form to make the team. Lets see how McLaughlin runs tomorrow, but Little-McLaughlin-Muhammad would be hard to bet against at this point.

I agree with the premise if we assume she takes another step forward, which is likely but the closer you are to 54.5/55.0 the closer you are to someone surprising you. I'm not overly concerned with McLaughlin.

Yea, I agree. The way I look at it is, she opened with some slow flat races, picked up an injury and took time off. Came back opened with 55.0 then 1 week later improved to 54.5. If she's peaking for USAs, getting to 53.5 doesn't seem unrealistic, which I dont see any NCAA athletes doing. Plus Spencer just got injured and Muhammad has now beat ever pro that could "challenge" (Syd and Little aside).

            • Can she knock a second off in the next couple of weeks though? After rounds? Is she fit enough to do that?

I think so, but we all just have to wait and see.

Does she need to knock a second off?

This isn't 2017 where 53.14 got you fifth place. If Spencer, Moline, Tate, and Carter are either injured, not in top form or no longer invested, the toughest person (Cockrell) to beat has run 54.77 and will be coming off a longshoreman's weekend of doubling in the hurdles and possibly the relays. After her are wishes and dreams.

Yes, she will have to run rounds but rounds may be not be taxing if running 55.5 moves you forward.

                          Maybe that 8.60 was legit?

I'll admit it didn't pass my smell test, but sure looks like he's there. I still wouldn't pick him to medal yet, but he sure can jump far!

Yeah, something did not seem right about that, but nonetheless I hope he gets a PB whether he medals or not just to legitimize it and to see some good jumps. Being as young as he is I think that will happen.

Yeah, fortunately for DM the high level depth of the 400mh isn’t nearly as tough as previous years.

Cockrell will have a little more recovery time since the 400h don’t begin till the second weekend of trials. Even still, I have a hard time seeing her or Shae Anderson be at the level to beat even a less than top form DM.
