Exactly! There are dozens of factors that always need considering and how to tease each of them out to know exactly what is and how much each contributes is a never ending, yet fun, endeavor as to why someone performed a certain way, in a certain place, at a certain time.

Yeah he looked good in Tokyo. He was in sub 10-form there but like you said the 9.8 caught me off guard. Good for him and Kenyan sprinting overall.

I definitely felt ADP was in mid 10.8's form in Tokyo. Still lots of time for her to do so this season, it seems she's in quite a zone right now. Like she said on Instagram, I'm more impressed with her 22.38. Definitely want to see her run more 200s I feel she's a sub-22 runner.

            • Del Ponte's 10.90 +1.8 @ 998m = 11.03 0.0 @ 0. This is made up of ~0.03 for altitude and ~0.10 for the wind, so don't get too hung up on Chaux-de-Fond being on a mountain because a good wind trumps height.

If we look at her three round OG campaign plus her new NR we get the following corrected times:

              10.99
              11.01
              10.92
              11.03

So she's run 4 basic times within ~ 1 tenth of each other over the last fortnight. That's pretty impressive consistency and shows she is still in peak form. Like all post OG athletes - how long can they hold their peak?

She did run a 22.83 last year with +2.1, so that could still have been a legal sub-23 with a much more modest wind. Still a big jump to 22.38 but she's never given herself many chances.

Here's a table of her SBs for 100&200, the ratio between the two and the number of finals at each distance. You can see the ratio drifted out the last couple of years and just now snapped back to nearer her 2015 level. If she'd been able to keep the 2015 ratio she would have been 22.9 in 2018 and 22.7 last year, a more normal progression.

                • Also at Le Chaux de Fonds, Evelyn Saalberg set huge PBs over 200m (23.39, a PB by 1 sec) and 52.32 (PB by 1.6 sec)
I point her out because she's one of Meuwly's NED athletes, and he's said she has a lot of potential, but has been struggling with injury the last 2 seasons. He was hoping she would make the 4x4 team for Tokyo but she wasn't quite fit. But this is good news going forwards for the NED 4x4

Also, I doubt even 998m gives you a 1.6 sec PB over 400m

                        • Del Ponte should certainly run more 200s, as it can only help her 100m.

I think she's great though. She ran in her Darth Vader socks; she's a total geek and proud of it. Apparently she is super intelligent, is studying 16th Century Italian poetry, and prefers to just read history books and classics to relax. She also speaks fluent Italian (she's from the Ascone-Locarno region where Swiss Italian is the primary language) Bosnian (her mother is from Bosnia) German, French, and is adept in English too!

                          • I think her 7.03 60m this winter was a huge signal of her potential which she realised in Tokyo. Her form is solid and she held it in the 200m.

                            European Double next year?

Saalberg improves to 52.19 in Bern, to prove her La Chaux PB was no fluke, finishing over 1 sec ahead of Laura De Witte (who was 'the 4th' runner in the NED 4x4) but 1 sec behind Spain's Bokesa.
